Better Ideas? - Niche and Niche Marketing

May 21st 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

People keep asking me, why do i change Gurilla.net so much?

Well the answer is simple, i dont have my mind set at the moment for it, there are a ton of things i can do with it but nothing seems good “enough” for it, but hey, thats just me.
Other then that lets talk about niches, i’m gonna pick around 5 niches and give you one way to market it..

  1. Scripts

These can take up an invest of upto $2,000 but the reward might be greater if you choose to develop the right kind of script only, for example if you make a myspace layouts/resource script, your target would be only webmasters of a fluid budget that don’t mind spending 100s or even 1000s on a moments notice on upgrades/addons. Kinda steep i know but a great niche non the less.

The best way to market this is webmaster forums, and/or (not that i consider it) hotscripts.

  2. Proxies

Yep its considered a nice too, you are not selling anything, so adsense is the way to go, best way to market this is, search engines, get backlinks with the right anchors, and never work on more then 2 anchors at a time unless its onsite SEO.

  3. Fan Sites

Well not that i wanna call following a trend a niche, but hey its easy to market, if you like a certain series on tv or any kind of media that is on a current roll, you should take it up and try to squeeze out the fan juice, a fan site can be an MFA or a full fledged site with Galleries/Bio/News/Blog < yep thats my 9 yards ofr a fan site.

This kinda site would definitely do well in Adwords and in Search Engines too, as you can see Backlinks are a great way to market almost any niche.

  4. Resource Sites

    Now we are talking!
I consider these eye candy of the highest level, and yes i mean that in the best way.
These are sites that rank good in Search Engines, even if you don’t work on backlinks and only advertise as a more word-to-mouth or in other words referral sort of way, these kind of sites can do great if they are at least a year old and are fully indexed, yes you don’t have to work to get indexed, but you do have to work to keep updated content on the site at least new content every 3 days.

  5. Blogs

    Yes, a classic.
Blogs are like link traps in my opinion, if you are a potential reader/info seeker and you land at a person’s blog which has unique content, you will end up being 40% inspired 20% will to write about that blog and 40% satisfied, bad stats ay?
I know, its hard to blog, specially about things that people actually want to read!

Best way to market this is Digg/Stumble/Del.icio.us, in other words, Social Media Marketing.

———

And thats it for the 5 niches, i personally think (as a theory) that taking up one niche and sticking to it, is the the best thing you can do for your bank balance, but i never really pursued that kinda way to be honest, although in some part of my head, i really really want to.

Concentrating all my powers on one site can result in something really valuable, in theory ofcourse, so far i haven’t tried it, at the moment i stand at over 300 sites, spread over 90 niches, i really feel funny saying niche now, anyway, having so many sites is kinda cool but only from another persons point of view, there are several sites selling daily, doesn’t mean all the buyers have the same intention and/or aim for them to buy the sites.

Make better decisions, do some research on the niche before taking the leap :)

24 Hour Turn Over - Backlinks

May 19th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

Lately i have been building backlinks for alot of my customers, not just via the blog network, but by other link bait tactics too like i said before LinkBuilding is an Art and ill stick to it, but all of it just got better, for the last week i have been observing what seems to be a 24 hour backlink update as soon as it hits midnight google updates the backlinks , through out the day you won’t find any new backlinks but as soon as it hits midnight you’re backlinks start to pour in, and im talking GMT time here, so for any webmaster id suggest dont just do work randomly, schedule yourself for the perfect timing you need the link to be at least 6 hours old to be indexed anyday.

Get your timings right, and you’ll see an amazing difference in your backlinks and pr!

Mac OS X 10.4.10 Leopard Update

May 18th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

The latest news on the Mac OS X 10.5
Leopard is that Apple has decided to push back the release until October 2007.
The current system that Mac has out now is the OS X 10.4 Tiger Operating
System. There are still some changes and repairs that have to be made and the
dot ten software will be used to repair it. The creators of the Mac want to
stabilize the software to the Mac OS X 10.4.10; they want to get it to where it
will be able to send copies of the software updates to the Apple Developer
Connection.

Like any good company Apple is not
releasing the details of exactly what needs to be repaired or what features
they wish to improve upon. A company executive has said recently though that
they expect to provide an answer for one of Mac’s audio related problems. Along
with these changes in the Leopard Os X System. Experts say they may want to use
the future updates of the Tiger to help lend the Leopard software to support a
series of hardware updates that is said to have new Mac Book Pro Notebooks and
a redesigned 20 and 24” iMac all in one desk top.

In actuality, the updates to the Tiger
were intended to launch into the next phase of the Leopard operating system but
with the launch date for the Apple iPhone being released in June, the work on
the Leopard turned into many months of delays. The Tiger was last updated in
March around the same time it released the Mac OS X 10.4.9 and those enhanced
features were camera RAW support, improved DVD playback features and enhanced
Bluetooth Support.

The Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard is available
for Apple Developer Connection subscribers and used fro beta testing only. The
completed version is being set for launch in 2007 WWDC in October. The company
has yet released a list of the features it has yet to change but the system
itself is said to have a 64 bit graphical user interface applications and an
automated back up utility called the Time machine. Other features are said to
be Dashboard Enhancements, iChat Enhancements, iCal which is a calendar for
sharing and group scheduling.

Spotlight is included which is being
incorporated into an additional search capacity such as Boolean operators and
with the right permissions it will search other computers. It will have Virtual
desktops which separately are called Spaces. The Leopard is expected to have a
software assistant called Boot Camp. This has been available as a beta release.

This newest system will have the
compatibility of PowerPC and Intel Macs. The Leopard will support PowerPC G4
and PowerPC G5processors but it is not clear yet if it will support the PowerPC
G3. Insiders have said that the postponement of the Leopard is a good thing
because it may not have been so successful with the June release of the iPhone.
We will have to wait until October 2007 to find out.

LinkBuilding is an Art.

May 18th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

Getting links is the ultimate goal for a webmaster basically if you have ways of making people link to you, you’re a rockstar.
Now these links can be bought as well, but eh lets face it, wheres the fun in that?

Why not make people link back to us? Well one of the reasons people don’t do this, is because it takes too damn hard, but since matt cutts said that natural backlinks are worth alot more then the ones that are paid for, it seems that you need brains not bank to get links now, and thats where only 30% of the webmasters come to play, only some of the webmasters out there actually know how to get backlinks and make the people who did that spread them out and come back, again…and again!

It is indeed an art, some of the tricks that used to be considered a pro tactic included “parts” where you release part 1 of 2 content and make people wait a week or so for the next half, but not anymore, times have changed you gotta be more creative, referrals work equally well too, but the thing is you gotta keep it fresh, people are like google, try one thing one too many times, and they will catch on.

Attention Seeking or Harassment ?

May 17th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

I think alot of people have recently noticed this thirst for information a bit annoying, a thread a digitalpoint which is being advertised vian adwords on digitalpoint, is a contest of a sort where the OP asks for information on how digitalpoing got famous, in other words, marketing secrets.

At first the ads said:

Take the survey, win 4500$
By the way that isn’t cash, its just 4.5k$ worth of prizes/links.

Now its more like this:

Reaching out a bit i guess, no wonder this guy needs marketing tips.

Sticking to it, this time.
