Organic Link Building.

Jun 27th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

This is a reply to Venetsians Post on Organic LinkBuilding.

Google’s new “No Paid Links” rule is still stirring up storms here and there but the concept of why it started or why its being forced on webmasters is still a bit vague to people, i would like to take this chance and explain why organic backlinks are better for google and you.

Normally a webmaster in order to sell links would work on traffc and Pagerank, but for a webmaster time is money and most webmasters would rather pay for traffic and pagerank rather then work on it, i do agree with the prices going on these days on PR backlinks but the fact of the matter is those who sell links don’t have a real, strong, high pr site, its all because the way they market themselves, now the reason why big sites like youtube have a great CTR on their ads is because they don’t shove content/offers down the user’s throat all the time, it gives them room to breath, what webmasters do is use SMM or SEM to force people to visit the page and read the article or go through their so called “interactive” website, making websites and generating content is just like being original in real life, it does not matter if you have money, all that matters if you know what you are doing and its what people want.

In short, google is trying to keep things still interesting by introducing the “No Paid Links” rule, by doing this it encourages or in some ways pushes webasters to focus more on original unique content and not just unique but content that people want to read or want to find, As a basic unique content turn over wave, every 3rd or 4th day after you release some content or posts or entries on your site that are in the current trand and are being focused on, these will get backlinks and will be talked about on blogs,sites,forums..etc.

I am not against whatever Google decides to do, i mean we are here to find new innovative ways to make backlinks, generate traffic, handle daily market trends and find ways to make it all work, its a game and whinning about something like “no paid links” is not the thing to do, not at all.

So heres what i suggest any webmaster to do in order make some organic (real) backlinks:

  1. Go on a 3 day trend research, to find the latest news or the direction its going in, and take the risk and post about it,blog about, write about it, talk about it there are many ways to use a future trend. (i choose to write about it, unless its something a client of mine is interested in)
  2. Be an active social blogger, you can’t just make a blog and “hope” for it to get picked up, there are many social blogging networks like technorati or mybloglog, they all help in interacting.
  3. To promote your site for traffic or pagerank, do not buy links, rather go on a SMM (social media marketing) campaign, but i only suggest that if you have original/unique content which is in the current trend.
  4. Finally, try to be more patient with your site, and submit sitemaps regularly to the Google Webmaster Center

Adsense, No PIP Yet.

Jun 26th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

Well strange but yes, people do panic when Adsense gets late in its PIP notification (Payment in Progress), after all its a months worth of hard work we are talking about here, its strange since it has been quite a while since it hit 25th in U.S. there has been no notification that Payment is in Progress at Adsense, everyone including me, yes im not that big on adsense but i still like the pocket money i get from it every now and then, are holding their breath at the moment for it to show payment is in progress.

Well for all i know they can be doing it right now but alot has been going on most people even say that there wont be a PIP untill the 5th July, which is even more ridiculous, the best thing to do now is just wait patiently for Adsense to run the PIP process for this month.

Ready for a PR update?

Jun 24th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

Well i know i am, all sites have a good number of backlinks, unique content, 100-500 daily uniques a new backlink every week, perfectly indexed, great serps…i can go on forever..but i am not expecting any PR above 4 for any of my site on the line this time, the thing is when a site is launched it needs traffic/content not authoritative/high pr backlinks, that we can do ourselves later as well good traffic and visitors that come back to you every now and then is what makes a great site great!

For example take this blog i know i abandoned it but im getting almost 100v/day! its great because i know there are 100 people everyday listening to my ramblings and tips about seo and general life!

So heres the tip of the day

If you have a new site, don’t do linkbuilding campaigns rather go for unique content and market it well!

This one cracked me up but it is so damn true, blog themes and sites with random photos/pics in them are so corny that its becoming a pain now, there are almost NO real users for these kind of themes/templates anymore, and yet people tend to make them over and over again, there was a post about this on the best page in the universe where they explain just how corny and idiotic these random images and expressions are.

Web design 101 is to use CSS and have proper custom images made for your website, no one wants to see what they already can on a cheap calender, a good blog theme/website template is based on pure css and custom images, not stock photos and cheesy sub titles.

A great example of this is SEOmoz, their website is just amazing everything is perfectly placed and you will never see random pictures of people you don’t know there ever, every image their is either a part of the template that has been made specially for it or pictures (avatars/profile pics) of the users.

Its how it always has to be to get into the mainstream.

SEO Tip 3 : Keywords and SE Traffic

Jun 22nd 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

This tip will cover the following areas.

  1. Keyword traffic Vs. SE traffic
  2. How to land a keyword
  3. When to land a keyword
  4. Making choices when choosing a keyword.

Keyword Vs. SE traffic

Now keyword traffic and normal search engine traffic are two different things, first of all SE traffic can be obtained if you have a link on another person’s website and someone else browses to that certain website and then goes to yours, much like buying high traffic backlinks, this is also done alot at Techcrunch, its the reason everyone is so eager to get themselves reviewed by Techcrunch, plainly for the traffic.

Now keyword traffic is a whole another thing, its when your website itself is indexed/ranked on a great keyword which is either in the top 10 trend at google or is the latest trend in general and people are searching it actively, one of the most over used keywords have been proxy, free online games, poker, poker cheats and myspace proxy. Keyword traffic is much much larger in quantity but has the potential of dieing out over time where as SE traffic is much more stable (and low).

How to land a keyword

The best way (which i tell my clients) is to get unique content and market it well or make friendships/relations with fellow bloggers and be in touch with them on the regular and ask them once in a while to review your latest post or news on your site, this can not only get you real validated backlinks but also give you a bit of authority in google, to do this the right way is to make content that will get the people commenting and reviewing your post, i only say this because if you want real high value backlinks, all you need is good content and great friends with high pr sites/blogs.

Now if you want it or not your site will land a keyword itself over time (usually 5 months) for the first 2 weeks the site you are working on goes up and down, in and out of google this is because there really isn’t any trust established, google is still searching for resources that validate that your site is unique and is worthy to even land its main keyword (domain name without TLD), there have been many many cases when a site will not rank on its main keyword, its because the webmasters are either not working on the main keyword or the site hasn’t been recognized by google yet.

The only best and proven way to land a keyword is choosing one keyword and sticking to it for one, and then just unique content that is acceptable to review by other site/blog owners. I’d prefer people reviews from high authority blog owners over anything, a real true review that tells people about your site/service, those backlinks will be worth more then directory submissions or link exchanges in many many ways.

When to land a keyword

This is something that most of my clients thing they have to do from the get go, well it is definitely possibly to do it from the next day if you have the right kind of contacts or an interesting enough site, the best time to land a keyword is definitely when your site is well established and working up some heat here and there, you don’t want to get potential loyal visitors to come and find nothing on your site now would you?

3 months after your site’s release or a complete site is the best time to actively trying to land a keyword.

Making choices when choosing a keyword.

Ok this is like the decision making time, what you choose at the beginning will serve you for months or years to come, i never suggest my clients to target multiple keywords at the same time since the effort put into them gets dilute, you have to pick one keyword and just get at it like a rabid dog, the results will always be in your favor, you can always choose a mainstream keyword, some are now considered Cliché now a days such as proxies with “myspace proxy” or arcades with “free online games” or blogs with “make money online”.

You can go either way, the hard work will definitely pay off at the end.

Its common for link buyers to consider if a site is in Google’s cache, a site will only get in Google’s cache is because they are either active or having a boost in serps, its usually identified by backlinks or a mention in a big site/blog, usually a site gets updated in Google’s cache if a lot of heat is going on, this can only be identified by Google as backlinks from authoritative sites.

Now heres an example for this blog:

Mine was updated on the 16th whereas the second one was done more then 2 months ago, this is only because my blog has some heat going around here and there, backlinks coming from either authoritative sites like technorati or just good ol’ seo news blogs.

Another thing to remember while buying links is that if google shows that a certain site has lets say 10,000 pages in its indexed and all are cached 5 days ago, thats only because that certain site has been moving around alot, generating heat, if you do buy a sitewide link per say, you will not benefit from those 10,000 pages, only the pages that are still active or are getting backlinks or referrals from authoritative sites will be re cached or unless there is an update on the whole site, yes i mean 10,000 pages worth of updates and a sitemap is submitted to google to notify the update only then you will get your link in google’s cache for 10,000 pages.

SEO Tip 1 : Getting Indexed

Jun 19th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

Here is SEO Tip no.1, its something i wanna do to discuss things people want to know since they start a site to the point they sell it.

We all know how hectic it can get to be indexed at Google, other search engines can take care of themselves, Google is the only one that requires a few steps that need to be taken before you can be listed in Google’s index.

First of all if you have just launched a site and its hardly 2-3 days late and its still not indexed, you have to accept that its not that active yet to be indexed itself, a few steps are as follows.

  1. Well first of all go to your site and look through it for flaws or errors, such as duplicate title , duplicate content , unique meta tags, you don’t want to invite a spider over for inspection for an index listing and have errors every other page.
  2. Now you have to make sure you are making the right choice in the URL structure before trying to get indexed, this refers to both “www , non www” and “seo urls”, once you choose something it can get troublesome to get those urls in the index, this i will explain later as well.
  3. Now if you have made all the necessary steps go make yourself a Sitemap and headover to Google Webmaster Central and submit the sitemap.

You will definitely see more googlbot hits then usual, now you are basically saying “Hey, im here, let me in.” and google will give you a listing on its index in at least 2 days, for me it never takes more then 10 hours, but hey its good to set your margines high.
