Link Popularity and Authority.
By in SEO on 1st September 2007Well there are alot of different views on this matter most people think that if they have an insane amount of backlinks they have authority, that is just wrong..
Okay lets see what the difference is..
Link Popularity
Link popularity means that there are alot of sites out there that are active and are linking to you, now keep this in mind they are just LINKING to you, it can be in a review or just a sitewide link or whatever, this does not mean you have authority although it means that your site gets a bit more trust and more traffic then usual.
Link popularity can make you rank higher either for your main page or inner pages, it does play a vital role in indexation as well , at the end all it does is get you a better rank.
To say it simple link popularity is somewhat “FORCED AUTHORITY” as you are forcing google to rank you higher regardless of where google ranks you.
Authority
Okay this is a tough one, for this you need unique and relevant content and months of hard work, if you have good enough content people will blog about you without being paid that is the best kinds of links you can ever hope for, and thats what gets you authority to be honest, if you carry on a certain niche for 5-6 months you will automatically gain some authority and every relevant page/content you add to your site will get good serps itself without any backlinks or marketing its one of the perks of having authority, a good example of authority is my SERP Experiment, im sure you’ll see what i mean.
