7 tips to bring up traffic.

Oct 30th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

I got an email saying if removing no-follow is the wrong way to increase site traffic then what is?
So here are 10 things you can do to get your traffic up almost instantly.

- First, SMM (Social Media Marketing) should be on the top of your list because its fast traffic, temporary, maybe 1 click per visitor but still its traffic, anywhere from 100-2000 visitors can be expected from this but do-not expect themt to stay for more then 50 seconds, yea its not even a minute but traffic non the less.
The conversion rate on SMM Traffic is horrible but digg does get you a better conversion on feed subscribers then others such as stumbleupon and netscape.

- Trackbacks for blogs, recently i talked about how efficient trackabacks are when you strategise properly to use them in order to get traffic, more info on this is here.

- Article Series, making packs or series of articles such as “Traffic Boosters 1..2..3″ can get you some really serious visitors that will definately come back over and over to check up on the latest series of articles on the subject, not only content , this works on design as well, when i used to own ThemeVibes, i made a series of design called the Rockstar Series and since the first design hit WLTC the whole thing just rocketed, around 5 emails every week coming in to ask for a new series to the whole rockstar line, i dont have stats anymore since its not mine anymore but i can say safely that i got 2000-8000 within 2 weeks just for the rockstar series templates.

- Interactivity, this is something that i myself have to implement for this blog as well, this can be seen as widgets, tools, galleries, anything either way off topic and fun or too on-topic and taken one step further, anyone can be a blogger, being interactive and fresh is what makes people come back again and again..and again. A good example is galleries to blogs, but then again this is if you have alot of pictures to show off and such.
If you are looking into tools, then try to be more specific to your site’s niche, that will get you more relevant traffic rather then random users who don’t quite know just what the hell you are doing at the site..

- Resources, this is one of my favourites, see everyone is good at something and/or passionate about it and does infact like doing it alot, like shoemoney likes to give advice on marketing, matt likes to be an all around tech guy,and i like to design alot, if you have that something that you like to do alot, use it and get provide resources or tips regarding what you know.
For example, i like designing, so i make wordpress themes and wallpapers for my blog, and they are all free to download aswell, that gives my blog that something different.

-Social Widgets, feedburner, technorati, blogosphere and the tons more out there , all just waiting to send relevant traffic your way, give them a go as well, what do you have to lose anyway?

Here is something you’ll probably won’t hear from others, Do not go with blogrush at all, i do not recommend it at all. not one bit.

Google to release more APIs

Oct 30th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

googleogo.gifIn the post at techcrunch where they announce that google is going to make something to go up against facebook called “Maka Maka”, i kinda got stuck on the fact that they will be releasing alot of social apis to the public on november 5th, you know what that means, MFAs!

Whenever a heavyweight in the search industry announces apis it opens a line of new niches for webmasters, with a little bit of coding and rewrites you got yourself a money maker.

Other then that i can’t think of it being any better, last time we had an api from google (youtube) we had a huge load of youtube video aggregator scripts that work on its api to index videos on a site with category, search and what not.

Google will announce a new set of APIs on November 5 that will allow developers to leverage Google’s social graph data. They’ll start with Orkut and iGoogle (Google’s personalized home page), and expand from there to include Gmail, Google Talk and other Google services over time.

On November 5 we’ll likely see third party iGoogle gadgets that leverage Orkut’s social graph information - the most basic implementation of what Google is planning. . . . Google is also considering allowing third parties to join the party at the other end of the platform - meaning other social networks (think Bebo, Friendster, Twitter, Digg and thousands of others) to give access to their user data to developers through those same APIs.

All in all what Maka Maka is gonna do is put up this social interacting bridge between every service they are already offering at google now thats something that can definetly go up against Facebook, the funny thing is its not even considering Myspace to be of any competition at the moment. Hah!

Okay so its time to see where this blog stands right now, the past 2 weeks or so i took this blog seriously and since then i did alot of backlink work and tweaked out alot of meta gaps in the pages (this was the most annoying part), the keywords for the blog were totally messed up as well when i first working on it.

Here are some highlights of what i did..

seomoz-page-strength-seo-tool_1193659894953.pngListed at BlogCatalog

Got the Pagestrength up, again. Now its 4.5 which means im near 5, ill get ps5 in…next 4 weeks.

Listed at Blogflux

Blogrolled with several blogs

Got traffic up by alot - 3 weeks ago it was 20uv/day now its 800uv/day

Alotta work on Edu/Gov domains as well, these can be a bitch at times to find though. (Around 10 more links will be indexed in the next week or so)

More indexed pages (added tags)

More relevance towards SEO and Tech.

Got my rank for “SEO Blog” up from 700 to 206, this took hardly 4 days, i would’ve done it in 2 but i got caught up with some personal things. (Look below)

Released 2 more wordpress themes. (that was just for fun)

Added Mint for stats as well, but i dont visit it much because i get all my stats at google analytics now.

The things listed above can also be seen or read as tips to where to list blogs and what keywords/description to use where.
This is pretty much the ideal link building strategy i suggest or conduct for my clients, so i had to show it somewhere.

Here we are, PR4 with a continuously growing Page strength (currently 4.5).

And now, for the people that visit this blog ever so frequently i’ve added a top commentators widget, with do-follow so you’ll get a home page link if you comment alot, i recently blogged about how i don’t do do-follow on comments, and i still say that, because on inner pages (post pages), if there are tons of do-follow links that will decrease the content authority by a big chunk. The top commentators list will update automatically every month to show that month’s top commentators, thats to be fair to any user that may come here.

Have fun :D

Bloggers going for Do-follow. I don’t follow.

Oct 28th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

After a day of development i was having a drink and going through my feed reader where i found a post on SEM updates on shoemoney, where Pam talks about bloggers removing the NO-Follow tag from the links on comments and comment content as well, i read it on Daven’s Blog as well, personally i do-not agree with this as a good traffic generating strategy (long term), this could get you traffic but only for the time being from people who are willing to be sincere enough to NOT SPAM for a while to comment but after a little while they’ll all become the same’ol spammers they originally were, getting original quality and/or responsive traffic is incredibly hard and announcing this little fact that you are going to remove all NO-Follow tags on the blog just puts you under the spotlight with a big red circle on your shirt….and looky, here come the spammers!

As for blogs and link sales, being creative is not going to help at all, some people make sites and along the line decide to sell links and then there are some people who make sites only to sell links…links and links alone, link farms in other words, the only thing i suggest to my clients and/or people who ask about buying and selling links what to go for, my answer is always the same, go for sites that don’t look slutty to begin with (link farms or link whores or whatever you call them nowadays)…think of it like sites like John Cow, now when you go there you’ll find 80% links and advertisements to other sites, do you really think that site would rank good on any basis in google? authority wise. This does not apply to edu/gov sites, you can spam them all you want and you’ll still end up getting alot of link love.

Just one more thing to add to this, look at the picture below…it’s so obvious that people are posting just to get some link love from daven’s blog, obviously david has some authority which is going to be whored royally by this, ah well..

How sincere..

Pagerank, Stabilizing on entries.

Oct 26th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

I saw this coming a mile away, the link sale frenzy going on for the last few months had to end somewhere and this is what google did to protect itself and quality of PR sites, most known sites that were above pr5 came down to 3,4 or 5, their link value is totally shot but their serps mantain their power and authority in google, its like nudering your pets they can still do it but they aren’t gonna knock anything up.

The pagerank update is really near, there maybe a little more work for google to do as well, as previously posted there was a google indexation rollercoaster and then the google de-indexation week , its all to level the field to get things back into order.

I would say next pr update is either late November or earlyJjanuary.
