A Web Site That Is Web Crawler-Friendly

robotic-spider-small.jpgThe key to success for most online businesses which have made their mark, is to make the most out of search engine optimization. Search engine optimization is the process where websites are designed so that they can attract maximum traffic through the search engines. The primary step towards achieving this goal is to draw the attention of the search engine’s web crawlers to the website. Web crawlers are the programs being used by the search engines in order to collect data and index the websites that are being featured on that search engine. The information thus collected by the web crawler program is used by the search engine to decide the rankings of the websites on their portal.

In order to influence a web crawler, a website must be designed such that it has frames. Generally, most of the search engines have web crawlers which are unable to penetrate through the frames that are designed on the website. Thus, if the web crawlers fail to penetrate the frames then the webpage remains unread and in turn it is not indexed or ranked. There are two search engines Google and Inktome, which have crawlers capable of penetrating the frames in a webpage. Before submitting the webpage to the search engine it must be made sure that it has crawlers that are capable of penetrating the frames.

If the URL is being written with frames then it is always worth it to again get back and redo the URL. After the URLs are rewritten it is generally found that the new address created is easily seen by users as well as the web crawlers. The URLs without frames can be easily typed into the document as links and references.

After the URLs are rewritten, then the website must be submitted to the search engine. Some webmasters use automated search engine submission services to submit. The submission service provided by the search engines attracts some fee. Generally the fee for the service starts from fifty nine US dollars. The price quoted is to hold the URL in the search engine for a span of one year. Some webmasters tend to do away with the high fees involved by submitting the webpage to the individual search engines on their own.

After the submission of the webpage to the search engine a crawler page has to be designed. The crawler page contains links to all the pages that feature in the website and nothing else. In the crawler webpage the title of each page is being used as the link to that page. The crawler page thus designed helps in enhancing the keywords for the website, which in turn helps to improve the ranking of the website in the search engine.  The crawler page can be regarded as the site map for the website.

The crawler page designed thus will not be present in the search result of the search engine. This is due to the lack of text, which will not be recognized by the crawler to give it a high ranking in the search engine. Moreover, this page will not be of any use to human users. The crawlers do not instantly crawl the webpage, so patience is required until the website is crawled as there are several webpages on the Internet always waiting to be crawled. It may take up to 3 months for a webpage to be crawled.
