I was planning to start a directory site when the news about the Goggle penalty happened. But it seems some directory sites were not affected so I have decided to start a niche directory and run with it.

I think is a shame that google is plealizing directories, popular directories shuch as sevenseek , aviva etc have lost 50% of their PR but yet are selling links for $40+ . I think, this move by google goes to show that they want people to buy adwords rather then links from directories for traffic and not worry about the PR. The thing to note is that even though some of the directories lost their PR, they still have the same traffic but then do people really pay for traffic on directories?

Fortunatly my diectory was spared.. not only that, i actually gained good PR :)

First of all, don't call my theory wrong if you can't back it up.
And the directories that you have listed have around 30% of unique content the rest is just paid links, if not today then on the next update they will get the hit, just like alivedir.

As far as business.com goes i don't have anything against it, it is trusted to provide a full review of a site before its listed in its index, if thats not enough its owners are well known and have a respectable portfolio which backs up their marketing and advertising. Along with many more features that normal directories do-not provide.

Sorry to inform you but your theory is wrong, botw.org, business.com, joeant.com and many more are just examples of classical directories not affected by latest google algorithm changes.
