Having trouble getting a regular flow of traffic to your blog? If so, you may need to improve your blogging skills. Here are a few suggestions to help you on your way to having the best blog in your niche, even when you don’t feel like blogging.
Use outside resources such as flickr to locate a picture that relates to your niche. Then write a post about it. By giving your opinion on it, you can create great content that you might not have thought of otherwise. Searching for pictures is a quick way to create interesting conversations and make your posts look nice at the same time.
Mix up your content. By using a variety of posting methods your readers will never get bored. Make a video post by searching YouTube for your keyword. Once you find the one you want, grab the code to embed it in your post. All you have to do now is write a few sentences with your keywords included and whala! you’re done. Hit publish and wait for the visitors to come.
These two methods of posting don’t take very long to complete and there is no reason why you can’t do each of these at least once a week.
If you find you are having a hard time coming up with interesting content for your blog, take the day off by finding an interesting ezine article or other article directory to publish as a post. I wouldn’t recommend doing this every day, but republishing an article is a nice way to get relevant content for your readers.
If you have a day where you feel like you could write forever on your topic, break it up into smaller posts and post them at a later date with the post timestamp option in WP. Make up a whole week’s worth of posts at one time and then you can have the whole week to work on more detailed posts for the next week.
The last idea for this post is what is called a Roundup Post. This is where you simply gather links to information you find online and think your readers will find useful. Make a post every week with links to a particular subject and publish them in one convenient location for your readers to find. Your subscribers will thank you for it. Many readers don’t have the time to search the internet for the most interesting links on a subject but they will bookmark your site or subscribe to your feed if they know you will do the searching for them.

Thanks for the advice. I have been considering getting into blogging, but I was wondering how I would get enough material? These are good ideas as I am an artist anyway, so looking up pictures and such would be very helpful in coming up with material.

I agree with the fact that you state that “mixing up your content” is beneficial for any regular blogger. Readers of a blog appreciate a video or contest that breaks the regular blog postings. Plus, as you said again, it’s easy to search a video via a keyword, embed and publish.

Especially the last is a great tip since if the sites you’re linking to make use of trackbacks you might just as well get some extra visitors from those locations as well.
