WikiaSearch Will Launch This Month

04 January 2008 - By Mary Stage - Filled in News, Webware

Yes the long awaited arrival of the WikiaSearch will officially be on January 7th 2008 as predicted by Jimbo Wales late last month.

I recently made a post here on BlueVerse that brought up the question of when they would launch, so I thought it only fitting to let our readers know when the exact date would be.

It appears there’s a new look to go along with their official launch as seen below.

This is just like the wiki pages we are all so familiar with. Just a few days ago when I made a previous post about WikiaSearch, the site looked like this in Beta.

The site looks like it is all ready to go with the newest idea on searching the internet. It will be exciting to see how this new way to search the internet will play out with all of the other new developments with search engines in general.

They have built the site on 4 principles of organization and they call it TCQP which stands for Transparency, Community, Quality, and Privacy. They want people to know that they are in no way a search engine or a web directory but they are a ” platform for the development of a new free/open source search engine with user-editable search results” designed to replace current search methods. By using human gathered information, it becomes clear that users of wikiasearch will need to gather in this location to discuss issues related to searching the internet.

You can sign up for the mailing list and get your own wikiasearch account to start earning your reputation in this search community.

As I said before, it does look like an interesting alternative to standard search. I just hope it doesn’t wind up being a breeding ground for elitism and internal battles, like Wikipedia has. Course with any human run system, I guess that is a possibility.
