A blog, is a blog, is a blog. One is pretty much the same as another (all except mine, which are of course pure unadulterated genius) and unless they are of particular brilliance many do not return to a particular thread. So, how to ensure that your readership keeps coming back to the same place at the same time? Write a Tutorial, or guide, to something. This is the first part to my Tutorial on how to write a tutorial (fnar fnar) Tune in next week when I’ll be talking about introductions etc etc. It does work, however, a solid tutorial, especially in an area which is woefully underrepresented will have them beating your door down, and upping site traffic. Combine this with a tutorial on certain products or services (SEO, Google Adwords, and Amazon Affiliates) with plenty of links and you can watch your clicks jump up as well. But there is, as there is with anything on the net, fierce competition.

Thus it is important to construct your tutorial with care. The introduction should be concise and tell the user what to expect, a good introduction will contain scant details of all the content to come, this give the user a reason for staying the course, and it also breaks down some of the technical barriers, as many will be unfamiliar with some of the jargon, which you will use and explain in your intro. Each section, or individual blog, should then take one aspect, and explain it in simple clear language. Give plenty of examples (which can be links) and plenty of personal experience to back up what will work. Finally make sure that you sum up each blog with a mini conclusion reiterating the salient points and tips. You would be amazed at how effective this is in terms of perceived user friendliness. Happy Blogging. Next week, how to keep a moron waiting!!!!

Great information. I’ve written tutorials for websites, but it’s always good to hear what works and what doesn’t and to have a step up. I appreciate the advice.

This is great advice that all bloggers should consider. I personally am going to run a campaign and allow for others to submit tutorials to my site, simply because I do not feel that I could get good enough instructions on how to do something, but it is defintley something everyone should do

Great tips. I am planning to write a tutorial in my blog also but I am currently stumped as to what topic should I go for but of course it has to be related to what my blog is about.

The best thing about tutorials is that it is a form of timeless content, which isn’t the case with the many news or personal based entries you see appear on blogs. So it’s a great source of posts through which you can attract more visitors by just making a one time effort.
