Blog, Article, Tutorial, Web Page?

Blog, Article, Tutorial, Web Page?

Blogging, its the most fun you can have with your trousers on, it can earn you money, it can allow you to vent your anger and it can project your thoughts onto other people (like Jerry Springer’s final thought.) But what is a Blog? It used to be a way of keeping an online diary, and still is used by millions of people to do this; anyone can have an opinion on any issue. However, the blog has evolved to such a point where it is many things to many people. Common blog perspectives are tutorials, advice columns, how to guides, rants, raves and everything in between. So what is the future of the Blog? It is already becoming the single biggest content building tool for web sites, with people being paid for their opinion or expertise, and even more doing it for free, to build relevant SEO orientated content for their websites, there are many Blogs about blogging and loads of Blogs about writing a good blog. So where does it go from here? Is it fully evolved? I think that as video streaming technology becomes more user friendly and better tech –wise, more and more websites will host a resident video blog, giving the blog true multimedia appeal (this already happens on so many sites, just type blog into YouTube and you will be inundated.) the real question I would like to ask, constant reader, is where do you think it will all end, if an end is in sigh?. Please post replies to this Blog and let’s get a debate going. I will follow up when we’ve got a few good comments.

It’s hard to say on where this will all end, especially since not all are switching over to video blogs but many still staying with the more classical approach of typing. In about 5 years from now there’ll probably be a great gap between the more traditional blogs and video/photo blogs.

Whereas currently the same platforms are pretty much being used for both we’ll probably be seeing them split apart, giving both sides of the blogosphere a platform completely adjusted to their desires and needs.

One thing which we’ll probably keep on seeing much and much more too are blogs simply aimed at getting money, consisting of nothing more than sponsored posts and totally flooding the blogosphere even more than they’re already doing now.

Blogging will at some time replace big media. Magazines and newspapers are already feeling the strain. People are getting tired of the bias of the talking heads in media. They find through blogging that they can get the whole story, not just what some company wants them to know.

I don’t think video blogging will every totally replace the written word, just as television didn’t replace newspapers. Some people are just more comfortable at typing than shooting themselves on a webcam. So there will be room for both.

I don’t think there is an end in sight. I do think at some point, as with all technologies, there will be a shakeout that will distinguish those that blog for the passion and those that blog for money. It will come, but it will be a slow progression.
