Targetting Multiple Keywords for the Homepage.
Blogging, SEO
| Written by Ahson Rafiq on 25 January 2008 - Tags: Google, keywords, search engines, SEO, serps, Site plan, WebmasterAt first i was only targetting the keyword “SEO Blog” somewhere along the line i got greedy and i wanted to target my homepage for Blogging Tips , Make Money Online and Freelancing Tips as well - This goes against my siteplan for this blog to begin with but then i started thinking what if.
What if i can rank well for all 3 keywords and still keep the site relevant, as far as i know if i do all 3 there will be a fair bit of irrelevant content on the site for some visitors, my rankings at the moment are:
This one really took the piss out of me..

This one was fairly easiy ;p

I started targeting “make money online” last night so yep it still counts

This one was easier then i thought

Since my blog is technically a pr6 and i have a butt load of authority for most serps i can easily get into the top 20s or 30s but the top 10 spot is what im most interested in!
Here are a few of my aims to keep in mind while targeting multiple keywords for your home page.
- Make sure every keyword you are aiming for has a link to the category page or post page, with relevant content
- Links from relevant sites
- In-content links (link love/mentions)
- Alot of on-site seo - Meta tags/Titles/Descriptions and even 301s
- Must have sufficient support from social networks for each keyword (diggs..stumbles..etc)
- Unique and creative content - your content must be above average if you are trying to rank for something big
Thats all i have for now, subscribe to me for more updates as i get them!

this is just a tip for any one who may like to use it, and that is target one word for each page: A huge mistake that many beginners make is cramming numerous keywords onto every page. Instead of doing this, you should focus on one specific keyword for each page.
That way, you can make sure that the page is focusing on that one word without any distractions. If you want to target multiple keywords then it is necessary to create a separate page for each.

Keywords for the homepage are very important if you want to rank high for those words. Getting a specific keyword per page is also very helpful.

Some time ago I noticed funny thing. A “professional” company created a website for other company. They left empty space for keywords and many more different metadata saying “type your keywords here”, but didn’t told client company that they have to do it themselves. They also knew nothing about using HTML tags like h1, h2, h3, em or strong.
!
And those companies advertise as “professionals”… Luckily this blog is professional and I foretell bright future for the author

Interesting information. I have always found that the more relevent keywords you include, the more traffic you can get. A ton of traffic comes from unknowing Googlers. Meta tags and its contents such as keywords are not to be forgotten!
