5 Tips that will boost your SERPs!

31 January 2008 - By Ahson Rafiq - Filled in SEO

I wouldn’t blog about it if i hadn’t tried it myself, in the last few days i was experimenting alot with nofollow on links and my post/page titles and i wanted to see for real if i had got any positive response from google, and i finally got enough facts to prove that this does help!

No extra chunks in titles

If your page is about “Free SEO Templates” then let it stay just that do not end it with your site’s name like “Free SEO TEmplates – Site Name” that not only spams your own serps but would jeopardize your ranking on “free seo templates“. NOTHING more then what is relevant.

Nofollow 90% of the site

I don’t believe in “selling seo” but i do believe in product integration and relevant products for the targeted traffic, so thats why the main objective you should have while selling/buying links on your site should be purely traffic, the more you buy/sell links to manipulate search engines the more they will pick on you.

Continuance of topics

Every niche has several number of topics involved so don’t stop at just one, make more content on the neighboring topics, if you have the following pages on your site interlinked between each other then they will boost each others rankings no backlinks needed.

  1. Basic SEO
  2. Intermediate SEO
  3. Pro SEO
  4. SEO Book
  5. Learning SEO
  6. SEO in 5 steps

Constantly update your content

Let me make it bold so that its very very clear even if its a static page or a post on your blog if you want to mantain a serp ranking – constantly update the information on the post if there is some more info out there. SERP rankings are determined by the end user’s satisfaction count as well if people just go to your site then google it again and select a different serp then you stand to lose a ranking!

Using the H1,H2 and H3 tags

The header tags carry alot of importance as well think of it like categories then sub categories in your blog

H1

– H2

– - H3

So think of it like this, break your page into 3 headings within the content :

  1. H1 – Learning SEO
  2. H2 – SERPs and basics
  3. H3 – Further into serps

You get the idea :)

    Ahson,

how about adding comments to your wordpress posts ? This gives your new post an additional link from somewhere else on your blog, and although it’s the same IP address, I find it still as very valuable.

I also reference old posts occasionally, as this gives the google spider an opportunity to see a stable old page getting continual inbound links.

These are excellent tips. The one that I hadn’t realized the most was the extra info in the title. I think I need to reconsider some of my sites and the titles that they have on them. Thanks again.

    Very interesting post you made.
I have taken your tip about the title into account – It seems logical, and hopefully I will have a better SEO.

I didn’t think about the H tags either, but I don’t usually use them (my site’s a forum).

H1, H2 and H3 tags are an oft-forgotten part of on-page optimization. Based on what I've seen, pages that are organized in this way seem to have an advantage over pages that do not.
