Saving Money Online - Save and Earn Money at the same time!

By Ahson Rafiq in Make Money Online on 7th February 2008

Spending online is so much easier online specially if you fancy half the expensive things you find online including gadgets, pcs, laptops, misc accessories and not just that but online content as well such as scripts, programs, softwares, web tools, lisitngs links and the list goes on..

Here are my 6 ways not to spend money online, in other words 6 ways to save money online!

Don’t get star struck!

Whenever i see a big site promoting a product i suddenly want to use it and have fun with it because it is infact really a rush to buy something pricy and shiny which has been reviewed as “must use!”. So it is really important to keep your own views and know your budget specially if you are trying to save up for something big later on in life don’t ever give in to other reviews, go for needs not wants.

Make a pros and cons list

Most of the times people ( mainly me ) convince themselves that this is the product they need to have no matter what, but if you make a pros and cons list you’ll see its really not what you need its what you want.

Set a limit on your funds

Setting a limit like “i will spend anything i make over $5000 this month” will influence you to make that $5000 first so that you can spend anything over $5000, when you reach that limit increase i, that way you save money and make money at the same time!

Go for alternatives, possibly free alternatives

Usually people are looking for upgrades to things they already have in my case the theme for this blog, but if you look around for free alternatives you might save a huge chunk if not a 3rd party free alternative then maybe something you already own and have neglected!

Do your own work

When people (mainly me) reach there max limit of money earned in a month they tend to go out of control a bit and start hiring people to do their work for them, money is really fluid and it comes and go based on your ability to spend it, if you are careless with it it will drain away!

Do your own work, work hard don’t hire others to do it for you, specially while blogging because your readers subscribed to your blog because they wanted to read what you have to say not some stranger they hardly know.

Love what you have not what you might have later..

Although its a good motivation builder - keeping your eyes on the prize , you should know that buying things is not the main aim of your business, building a reputation and a solid image in the market is the aim at hand!

I have a habit of always setting a budget for my webmastering needs. If I go over my budget for whatever reason, I never add additional funds and I wait it out till next month for another budget.

That’s quite the list you have made up there! Some of those tips are quite handy as well, but I think some of them only apply to the ones that are full-time webmasters that are able to make thousands a month. If your a small time webmaster, you probably shouldn’t be spending much time buying online anyway, as you should be out promoting your site for more traffic and customers.

Yes, there is often an alternative that will do the same job, or even better for free. It may take a bit of tweaking to get it to the same thing, but best to see if it will do it before buying scripts especially. The open source market has become a great resource.

Also one you might have wanted to mention was coupons. Often you can find different items (both online and offline product) on sale through coupon sites. An example is GoDaddy often has coupons for domain names.

When i’m buying online, i don’t feel as though i’m actually spending money. I can start a day with $100 in my paypal account and by the end of the day it’s all gone. I mainly buy domain names and other website related things :)

Great guide. I tend to use most of these tactics as well. I agree hiring other people to do your work when you can do it yourself is a big mistake. Sure it may save you some time, but you should be aimed on making as much money as you can. Being a penny pincher is good.
