Why Pagerank is such a big deal

14 August 2008 - By Ahson Rafiq - Filled in SEO

So, theres all this fuss going on about how page rank is so evil and all that but the way I see it is as just a bunch of people not fully understanding the situation and just lashing out at their recent loss, if they didn’t think pr was important they wouldn’t be making such a fuss about it in the first place. To be honest the PR calculation algo has always been top notch, it’s just the fact that these days alot of people who wanted to join the make money online trend quit their jobs and made websites to make a living off of do really unethical things to get PR and when they do they are happy (for a while) after they are obviously de-ranked because of all the unethical practices, this is when they lash out and try to “stick it to google”.

There is no need to join the movement because there is no cause it’s just a bunch of angry people lashing out, as I stated before. The tougher the google algo gets the better standards of websites is created, if there are crappy sites out there who can’t keep up then yea they do deserve to be de-ranked, alteast then they will have some motivation to make a real quality site that can earn them even more.

The way I see PR is:

  1. Make a blog
  2. link exchange with fellow bloggers
  3. blog more
  4. do some social media marketing
  5. blog more
  6. link exchange with fellow bloggersnow when you have PR
  7. Give out do-follow links on the homepage only to your top commentors to get more traffic.
  8. Link exchange more
  9. Make more themes.
  10. Buy sponsored reviews
  11. Get techno reactions
  12. More PR!

That’s just the way I brought blueverse up from a small personal blog to a high profile business blog that it is today, it’s all because of PR. I know that all this big talk about google being right will be hard to live up to when I’m de-ranked for whatever mistake I made, but I can tell you all this much, it won’t make me quit trying here. You shouldn’t either!

To give a perspective from a google point of view:

PageRank Technology: PageRank reflects our view of the importance of web pages by considering more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms. Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results.

PageRank also considers the importance of each page that casts a vote, as votes from some pages are considered to have greater value, thus giving the linked page greater value. We have always taken a pragmatic approach to help improve search quality and create useful products, and our technology uses the collective intelligence of the web to determine a page’s importance.

Having said that in layman terms High PR is nothing but being on the first page.

  8. Technodorm Says:

PR isn’t really important in my eyes. As long as it doesn’t hurt your search engine traffic from google, there is no harm. And I have seen many blogs having their pagerank dropped but their traffic does not change.

PR is only important for selling links. Nothing else.

Although most of the webmaster murmurs that PR is not important, it plays an important role in traffic. More the PR more the traffic. PR clearly implies that your blog has received got vote from other blog. That’s why blueverse is having a descent PR…
