Auction scams surface once again – Spoono.com Scam – Tips to be safe

16 August 2008 - By Ahson Rafiq - Filled in Webmaster

It’s been around a year since I saw these kinda scams take place at forums, a recent auction at digitalpoint was included a really big site that is pretty well known among coders and webmasters, Spoono. Obviously the site or it’s owner wasn’t included in it, but the name of the site was, since the site has a really authoritative state among tutorials, great traffic, high pr (6), it was a really easy sale, doesn’t matter where it was.

This guy at DP tried to pass it off as his own site at a bin of $1200, someone made the bin, paid and tried to claim the site, but little did he know that it was all just a scam. Sites like Spoono don’t sell at those kind of prices, revenue isn’t the proper way to judge a site’s value, alot of things make up the buying price, but thats a post for later.Anyway, Later on, the guy realized and was out 1200$..

…and I felt pretty bad for the guy…

well, at least I tried.

Now! Let’s get on with the tips.

Tips to buy websites safely online!

  1. Always ask to verify the domain by adding some kind of a page or upload screenshots within the site being sold or announcing the sale of the site on the site itself.
  2. Ask for proof of traffic, revenue, ownership of content and other things that are included in the sale.
  3. Verify Pagerank, Whois info, Indexed Pages, Adsense ban among other things.
  4. Never pay the full price upfront if dealing with $x,xxx
  5. Get info on copyright issues, future updates and any past happenings that you should know.
  6. Make sure what you are buying, have it fully described.

Happy safe buying online (I know its corny)
