Re-defining your blog strategies.

23 September 2008 - By Ahson Rafiq - Filled in Blogging, Make Money Blogging

It shouldn’t be too much nor too less, it has to be just enough to get the job done.

This is where I want to explain that you can’t use the same blog strategy everywhere, I’m gonna go ahead and use my own strategy as an example for this.

When I first seriously started working on this blog, I went all out on it on the first 2 months, it had a really great effect on the blog, no doubt. It was a new blog, no one knew about it, people wanted to know more and over time the traffic grew as the content got better and better and I had the same strategy in play, now around 7 months after the launch, times have changed alot, I’ve gone from a “newbie” to a somewhat Pro blogger blogging on a well established, trusted and authoritative blog (which I adore).  Now my readers want more specific information overtime rather then daily news/tips..etc. To be honest this was the biggest and by far the best change I had to go through with blueverse, I never go off track with my content targetting, my readers subscribe to my blog so that they get what they wanted in the first place rather then some bullshit about technology or how I’m doing in life..etc.

I’ve seen that usually blogs get majorly side tracked as sthey grow over time, their content becomes more about themselves, theirlives rather that what they started out as, a few good tips followed by a lifetime of bullshit, no one wants that.

Here I’ve described two strategies, take on whatever suits you best.

All out strategy- Beginners : Starting out your blog.

  • Daily content – consistency is a must
  • Social Life Online – Make friends, be pro active
  • Interaction with readers – Contests, Polls..etc anything to get your readers to comment or interact with your blog
  • Theme – Design is important make sure you either make a design or buy something really nice
  • Cover topics at your hand and any topics surrounding them
  • Photos, videos and resources are a must, you need them!
  • RSS advertisements – by that I mean advertising your rss feed link, go all out post it everywhere on the blog and other sites.
  • Link exchange – Need pr? Need traffic? – GET LINKS!
  • Social Bookmarking – it’s a must, make lists, make huge ass posts, stumble them, digg them, whatever it takes to get traffic.
Laid Back strategy – Intermediate/PRO – Working on an established blog
  • Make sure you are getting comments on every post you make
  • Post about topics that you think will get alot of response, if you don’t have a post in mind then take the day off and think off one.
  • Make top lists such as top 50 blogs with great names/designs/bloggers..etc and digg it or whatever to get some links coming in.
  • Make sure you are friendly to everyone who contacts you.
  • Sell ads more often and never let the traffic go down.
That’s about it, I’m currently running this blog on the laid back strategy, it’s going really well in my opinion, I just broke the 900 readers limit!

This is a business blog focusing on entrepreneurs and how to make money online and off line and I am an authority at this particular area, I don’t need anyone to tell me something I already know, If I can do it, you guys can too, have confidence in what you start, you’ll make it eventually.

900 readers… wow. :O am still currently very much a beginner, so i do try to post daily, make friends online by commenting on related blogs, and i try to work on my backlinks. hopefully, i’ll eventually be able to transition to something a little more laid back indeed.

i’ve found that whatever course of action you take, whether a beginnger, intermediate or pro, you need to stick to the plan and track your progess. put it in writing and review regularly!!! (you can always adept it later)

  3. Essam Says:

its always hard on the beginning but i do all the strategy you listed here but some time it take more longer specially when you are in highly competitor niche, but i think what is always important is good contents

  4. Wei Liang Says:

It is always difficult at the beginning because there are so many competitors. Unless you have a really unique point that others don’t have, then you will be able to gain some good attention.

I could not agree more. The points made by you are relevant to any blogger irrespective of how long he/she has been blogging.

There is much more to blog about, as long as we have a master plan, do it step by step and consistently, should see result in few months time!

Thanks for this nice post Ahson, a lot to learn from you :) !

I must say that that check list of yours is very good. In fact it is what any new blogger must follow.

Being consistent is one of the biggest problems for bloggers, but at the same time one of the most important things. When I look at your list here, I realize how much work there is actually :)

  9. Copywriters Needed/ No Experience Required- Make $200/hr Says:

Your right. I think what is more important though, is social networking (as you have mention in your lists). Some people can really get caught up in the whole google adwords thing (which I can’t understand why someone would do that; waste of time and money) but social networking can bring you a great deal of traffic! Digg is too saturated now because the big coporates have taken over. I like twitter, problogger, and other work from home or ‘make money online’ blogs to advertise.

Those are some really good tips. I will try to follow the laid back way. I have been working on the first way for about 6 months. I still have a long way to go, so I am learning from the pros right now. Great post.

  11. Wealth Seeker Says:

Very interesting technique. I never though of some of those. I really think it will boost my blog and will improve my pr rank.

Also the point that your content should be regular is a great though and I will try to implement it on my blog.

Thanks for so many useful information.

I agree you should always be consistent when starting out and always have content updated, than when your site becomes popular you can update less often

Ahson, if you’re doing the “laid back approach” then you’re doing something right mate! :)

I’m pretty new(ish) to blogging but taking time to create polls etc. seems like it would take me forever. Probably not so maybe deep down I just need to take it “laid back” too lol

    We’ll see

900 readers is incredible. I’ve never really advertised my RSS feed, how would you recommend doing that? I have only 50 subscribers and am definately looking to get more. Thanks for the help.
