In today’s generation, blogging has become one of the trends in being active in the online community. While traditional media has print, TV and radio, the worldwide web meanwhile has blogs. Through blogs you can express your own thoughts and ideas, as well as find individuals and groups who share your musings. Moreover, blogging has become a good place for business, since you can easily get paid for what you post on your blog.
But of course, a key factor in making your blog a success is by promoting it throughout the internet. This is highly crucial for established bloggers since they rely on the popularity of their blogs to earn money. Thus, you have to know the best ways in making and keeping your blog a big hit among audiences. You can start by working on social media marketing.
Social media marketing is an effective way of promoting your website or blog by being part of social media sites. These sites refer to those where human interaction is very much present, such as social networking sites like Friendster, MySpace and Facebook. By being a member of these sites, you can introduce and promote your blog to real people, and not just with the statistics played by programming codes.
But social media marketing not only pertains to networks; it also divulges on the media itself. A very good example of this would be YouTube, a site where you can post videos about anything and everything under the sun. By using these forms of social media, you can increase your target audience, bring in more traffic to your blog, and earn more income.
Why is social media marketing important for bloggers?
First, your blog’s fame and fortune relies not only on the number of visits it gets, but on how substantial those incoming links are. You can get the most relevant backlinks from real people interested in the niche you work on, and you can get their attention by contacting them yourself. By being part of social media, you get to find out where these people are located on the web, just like hanging out with the people you want to hang out with. By joining forums, discussion groups, fan bases and other social networks, you can mingle and share your blog with them, so that they get to know what your blog is all about. Everything else will arise from there.
Another importance of social media marketing is that bloggers have wider avenues on where to promote their blogs. If you are a blogger who features and reviews products and services, you will be able to do a sales pitch on more than one place. You need not rely on random search results; rather you get to find your clients who will purchase your goods on sale.
The third thing you must remember about social media sites is that people update themselves through these sites above anything else. An example is Wikipedia. People check the site for free reference almost everyday. Some meanwhile even join Wikigroups for discussions. By joining in the Wiki mania, people will see you and your blog as a reference material. Thus they don’t get upset by the awkward sales pitch and spammy emails. You would look more inviting to their eyes.
Fourth, social media sites are themselves, places of great business. While you meet people interested in your blog, you also find people who would want to business with you. This way you can join in partnerships, collaborations and joint ventures, and that would mean more income for you, at less costs. Remember that in partnerships and joint ventures, the burden of work is shared.
Social media sites are also easy to control. Being the blogger, you create the agenda for your receiving audience, and through social media sites you get to lure your target market to your domain even by using simple eye candy tricks of web design. So, if you have something new to showcase in your blog, promote it in the social media sites which you visit. You can do this by posting a video about it, adding bulletins and messages on your Facebook, MySpace, or Friendster profiles, or discussing about it in forums and chat rooms. Hence, by being in control of the settings, you can then attract incoming links that are relevant to your topic, and that can increase your page rankings in search engine results.
Social media sites don’t use direct advertising and awkward sales invites. It’s more of partying with the crowd. They take on a more human and natural approach, thus you can promote your blog at any way you like. This lessens the pressure on your end in promoting your blog, not to mention a good training ground for you to master your creative prowess and social interaction.
Finally, through social media sites, the information about your blog is disseminated faster and easier. With just one post your blog can become well known overnight, since the information is spread in a network of other sites, and not just the place where you made the post. This information can also be featured in a friend’s profile, another website, and so on. You then save time and effort promoting your blog in the places you go to, since the whole network already does the job for you.
With the reasons stated above, it just proves that working on social media to promote your blog is truly a good investment of your time and effort. Come to think of it, you don’t really get to invest that much since it’s just like making friends with people. By being part of social media, you no longer have to worry introducing your blog to a lot of other related blogs and sites and wait in vain for a response; the social media sites will do the dirty work for you.
So, if you really want to make your blog one of the most popular places to go to in the internet, then seek the help of social media.

Social marketing services such as StumbleUpon or Delicious are not that noticed by a person until the results from them begin to arrive to their site. Soon after, the individual keeps them in mind for future reference to look to bring the viewers back.

I haven’t really explored the full potential of using social medias. In most cases, I’m only using it for social networking and not very much for blog promotion. A great article on subject indeed.

I have never had much success with social media, except for youtube, because I really dont like places like myspace. I have a profile but I think most of the people there are doing the same thing we are trying to accomplish, and thats getting noticed or making money. I guess there has to be a strategy behind it. Your post has enlightened me though.
