Okay this will be a general money post, doesn’t matter if you have a blog or a normal website or even a dynamic online store, whatever it is, it will be covered in the following post.
Making money online isn’t all that hard, its kinda like making some apple pie, if you have the right ingredients and cooked on the perfect tempreture, you’ll be on your way to a really good desert.
1. Content
Content, is what makes or breaks your site, if you think you have done all the right things for your site’s content and you still can’t make any money, then look around, take a look at your competitors that are making money in that niche, there has to be something they have that you don’t.
Usually users around the net, doesn’t matter if its from search engines or referrals, they are looking for specific info, if you made a site in a certain niche then you must have the topics they need.
2. Ads
65% of the webmasters tend to whore out there site in every way they can, links, cpc, affiliates…etc
IF yoiu have more ads then info on your site, whywould any one come to your site to begin with?
It shows how much you really care about the site, if you have alot of ads on your sites that completely take over the content, it’s pretty obvious to just about anyone with half a brain that this site owner isn’t trying to give me good info hes just trying to make a quick buck.
Revise your monetization plan, remove the last 2-5 ads you’ve added.
3. Affilliated with…blah blah blah
I simply hate it when I go to a site and there are like tons of small banners that say “This site is in the top 100 at..blah blah blah”
I get the point that they might be getting traffic from them, but come on! it’s just so annoying to go to a site with 50-70 banners in the footer area, it takes a while for it to load itself, specially because those top 100 sites have slow servers!
Heres a tip, don’t use any 3rd party hosted images, it slows down the site and annoys your users.
4. Speed. Time is money.
Extending into my last point, speed is essential, you need to have a site that loads within 2-7 secs because the more time it takes the more visitors you loose. Here are some factors that effect your load times.
- 3rd party hosted images
- widgets/banners from crappy websites that are slow themselves
- using way too many trackers in your script
- image heavy design

Very good article. These are some really good points and really explains it all. I think I have nice content but getting traffic is my major concern right now. I have to find the right promotion technique that is relevant to my site just like you explained in your post. It does take time to get good quality traffic though.

You have made some solid and excellent points here. No doubt about it, your content is by far the pillar of your blog success. Getting the traffic is one thing, converting them to be your loyal subscribers is another and the success rate depends largely on how solid your content is.
Yet another great article.

I find this more than true for every blog in the make money niche, one paid review follow the other, and in case it’s not a paid review it’s the same old lame tips, an affiliate related post aiming to either sell something or get leads to affiliate networks. I know there is a lot of money to be made with this, still I dislike most of those pages and rather look at pages that don’t have much ads on it.

Great points, I’m a firm believer that Content is King when it comes to blogs. If people don’t take the time to read your web site, it’s useless to have one at all.

These are all great points, I agree with the ads, if there are too many ads it makes you want to leave the site

a good re-cap of problems on sooooooooooo many blogs. even bloggers with the best intentions sometimes get carried away with programs that can end up hurting them (esp the Top 100 banners and inappropriate ads)
thanks

I think they are all great points, I agree with the ads, if there are too many ads it makes you want to leave the site. It becomes to noisy and unattractive. Always keep it simple and clean.

So true.
Many people don’t even realize what is wrong and why they aren’t making money. There are plenty of things to pay attention to and you touched on a lot of them here.
Thanks for the info.

I can’t stress enough the importance of having content on your site/blog.
That’s why I always recommend my students to focus on writing rather than on traffic or selling.
It’s a smart way to start making money instead of dreaming about it…

I agree that content is important, but that it should be relevant content to the theme of the site. That is my opinion anyway. I hate going to sites about music to find horoscope, gas prices, lottery info, etc. integrated into the site. Perhaps Music news or sales charts would make more sense.
This article makes a lot of sense and I am very interested in reading more!
