For bloggers, one of the most important things that keep their blog alive is the comments. These comments come from various readers and viewers who have checked out their blog posts and said something about it. It may be indeed a little time consuming to moderate incoming comments from time to time, but it is truly worth the effort. A few reasons will tell us why.

First, comments show that people are interested in your blog. While your statistics show that your blog is visited, comments on the other hand show that your blog is truly interesting. Some people just visit your blog to see if there’s anything new they can find, but through comments, you can see that your blog has been read thoroughly. Comments can be positive or negative, but all of them carry out a point so you can come up with more interesting posts.

Second, comments provide you with more incoming traffic. When people comment on your blog, they also bring in other viewers to check your post out. There are visitors who check out blog posts not necessarily for the post itself, but to see the comments under it. The more comments you can find under your blog, the more traffic you can get.

Third, blog comments serve as your place for link exchange. If you want to build links with other bloggers to promote products and sites, then the comments section is the place to go. You can find links to other blogs posted under your blog post, and you can then subscribe to them to increase the links to your blog. Your blog then becomes more popular in your chosen niche. You can actually find other bloggers searching for blogs related to their niche and posting comments on them, since this is an effective way in promoting their blog and inviting more people to check out their site.

Fourth, comments increase your popularity on search results. It is not only your posts that are considered relevant in a search results; the comments play a big role as well. When your comments include keywords pertinent to a search inquiry, your blog will show up in the list of search results. Comments prove to be highly important because they help boost you’re blog’s ranking in search engines such as Google.

Fifth, blog comments introduce you to your niche’s community. Once you find comments pouring into your blog site, it means that more and more people become hooked to your site. Because of this, your blog becomes known to other people who are already active in your niche’s community, and in this way your popularity increases as well. Being popular is a must since more hits come to your site, something your blog is made for.

Sixth, comments test the quality of your blog’s content. People will only return to a blog that provides them with quality, substantial posts. Thus, if you have posts that highly tickle your viewers’ interest while at the same time prove to be of sense and style then comments will sure pour in. Comments also work as your motivation to keep up with quality posts and not mediocre items that can only make them bored.

Finally, blog comments market your site to other viewers. When people check out a certain blog whose owner has made a comment on your site, there is this big possibility that that they will check yours too since your blog is relevant to that of the blog they first visited. Also, when these viewers search for this blog that has already commented on yours, the comment itself will show up in the search results as well. In this light your blog becomes tagged and becomes recognized by the viewers too. Thus, you get to enjoy more traffic coming in to your blog and a higher popularity in your niche in the long run.

Dovetailing as it does with your other post on niches, this makes the case that
I was impressing upon in my comments on the other post. This is indeed vital.

I’m not really sure comments help your search engine ranking. I’m not sure how much the content of comments add to the overall page content.
