Compared to other competing programs, Google AdSense is the best for sure. I don't think AdSense though has the best editorial control. In fact, it is very hard to control what ads appear. If you don't like one, you can remove it, but there are so many that it would be near impossible to remove every ads that you don't like.

I have only used adsense since I started my tech blog an year ago. It has generated good consistent revenue in terms of traffic received. Although I am looking at putting more ads from infolinks and kontera. They earn you a good amount of money as well!

AdSense does have the best editorial control. When AdSense can't come up with contexual ads on a page for any given reason you have the ability to use either public service ads, a blank block of color, or you can have them serve your own "dummy" ads. Its pretty sweet.
