Another twitter clone is about to hit the can!
These startups have alot of potential the first few months and after some 3-6 months of burning up money and making it “seem” better when it’s the same cookie cutter you used since the day you came online with a new spin on it, it gets really old and eventually shuts down.
We are sad to announce that Pownce is shutting down on December 15,
2008. As of today, Pownce will no longer be accepting new users or new
pro accounts.
To help with your transition, we have built an export tool so you can
save your content. You can find the export tool at Settings > Export.
Please export your content by December 15, 2008, as the site will not
be accessible after this date.
Please visit our new home to find out more:

Our thanks go out to everyone who contributed to the Pownce community,
The Pownce Crew
Too bad though I kinda liked Pownce.

Looks like Kevin Rose couldn't fight with a twitter. Although I'm happy with that because you don't have to choose now and all your friends will be in one place

Funny that they make out the site is being closed down because they got a new cool job… Lets face it Pownce was a EPIC Fail.

I never really liked the service anyway. Hopefully six apart will find good use for it however it sounds like the acquisition was about acquiring the talent not the software.

This is the normal cycle of things in nature. One community closes, another opens. Life continues.
