Location Strategy: Target Areas on Where to Place Your Ads

One main reason why people nowadays are into blogging is because this avenue can provide them with good income via advertising. The next step you will do for sure is to get advertisers who would want to place their ads on your blog. But placing the ads on your blog is not the final step-you would not immediately earn money by randomly placing ads on your page. It will take time of course before you start getting bucks out of these ads. However, if you want to reduce your waiting time and be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor, then you must learn one important thing: where to place your ads on your blog.

Placing the ads on the right places helps a lot in generating revenues from your blog, mainly because they not only become appealing to your visitors, they also help make your blog look valuable. Coming up with a good strategy as to where to place your ads is quite difficult for there are certain aspects which you have to avoid-such as putting ads on the annoying areas. Thus, here are some points you must consider before uploading your chosen ads to your blog:

Place the ads above the fold. If you want to your ads to be highly visible, place them on top of your blog so they can easily be seen by your readers. Thus, before they even read your content, they already are aware of your ads.

Make your ads fit into your blog design. Try to design your blog as if the ads are part of the whole blog and not just an add-on feature. This makes your blog look natural and not obviously intended for promoting ads. This also helps your visitors evaluate your blog and check its effectiveness not just as a bulletin board for advertisements but also a page filled with valuable information.

Do not place similar ads next to each other. Make your ads share a piece of a face with each other by setting ads of different sizes side by side. An example of this is by placing the top part of a skyscraper banner against the short end of a horizontal leader board. By doing this, your visitors would be able to distinguish which ads are which, and not look at them as the same thing.

Place ads in between content. You know why the medium rectangle ad is so popular? It’s because it is placed within the content of your blog, making it within your audiences’ line of sight. Your visitors would sure not miss this ad mainly because it’s posted right on their face.

Know the places where your visitors are more likely to click. Your users navigate from one page to another, and the best way to gear this behavior to your advantage is by placing the ads on areas near navigational elements. If you have figured out which pages your visitors mostly click on, then place the ads there as well. By this the pointer becomes close to your ads and they may actually click on them in the long run.

Are there things you should avoid when placing ads to your blog? The answer is yes, and among them are:

Do not place ad links under the “recommended links” category. By this you trick your visitors by redirecting them to sites which are not actually sites, but links to advertisements. Deceiving your visitors can bring a major impact on your blog, and you may lose subscribers in the long run.

Avoid using pop-up advertisements! While pop-ups have been popular across websites and blogs, it is not actually recommended to set up pop-up ads on your blog, since they stall on your viewers’ desire to view your page. Pop-up ads can be very annoying, especially to users who have a slow internet connection-they would not be able to close these ads right away.

Lastly, you should not use invisible links on your blog in redirecting your users to an advertisement. This is actually a form of black hat SEO, and this is also a form of deceiving your readers by redirecting them to places which they may not want to go. If you want to user text ads, then it is best that you highlight the phrases by having them either underlined or italicized.

There are templates which provide designated locations for ads, just like in Blogger, and you can feel free to add those banners from there. In these places, your ads stay safe while at the same time remain noticeable to your prospective clients, and tend to be clickable as well. You may also ask some help from your web designer so he can come up with functional templates that provide better places for ad units based on your preferences.

good article, the advertisement placement does matter. One question to Ahson: would you please tell me why you don't put a 300*250 rectangle ads instead of current 4688*60 ad? Thanks very much
