When creating a blog that you will use for business, it is important that you focus on the content in order for you to generate more traffic. However, aside from content, you must also manage your blog design. This is because you are doing business with your blog, and that you have to attract people to check your page out for them to be able to see and (eventually) click your ads. But will you able to achieve high incoming traffic and clicks if you use a dull, monotonous blog template? Of course not!

Hence you must be able to select and use the right template that can attract your target audience to visit your blog. There are a lot of free or cheap designs created for different blog software, and they are as well easy to install and edit. When browsing for a template, you may encounter several arrangements, color schemes, columns and headers. You may even have your template custom made by using the right HTML coding. But what exactly makes a close-to-perfect blog template? Here are some pointers in search for the right SEO template you can use for your blog to generate more income.

1. Kinds web template structures

If you are focused on promoting one product on your blog, then you can use a linear web template. This template makes your blog neat and dedicated to that particular item that you plan to promote to your audiences. You can also talk about everything related to that product or service but still remain to be consistent, hence your audiences won’t get lost in the discussion.

Linear templates are also helpful when you plan to fill your blog with how-to tutorials and instructional guides. This is because the structure of the template is effective in pointing readers to a particular direction through order.

Linear templates are also easy to edit; if you feel you need a change in blog template because you are becoming more interactive, then you can easily switch from linear to tiered or webbed templates.

If you meanwhile are planning to cover a wide range of subtopics under on general subject, then it is best that you use a tiered template on your blog. Most tiered blogs have 2 or 3 tiers, and through these tiers you can expand your discussion areas.

If you prefer however to be more interactive and would want to gain more audience participation, then you go for a webbed template. This kind of template can be a little more complicated than the other two kinds, but you through this template you can allow your users more flexibility in features and options. This will work best if plan to create a product catalog on your blog so as your users will be able to shop for various products.

2. Color Themes

Aside from template structures, you should also consider the colors that you will be using on your blog. Colors add life to your blog, both in terms of aesthetics and functionality. In terms of SEO, color themes help make your blog become more effective and enables it to generate more traffic. Picking the right color or color combinations can be tricky, but to help you come up with the right color theme, here are some things you must consider:

First, know the purpose of your blog. Just like in using templates, it is important that you know the purpose of your blog so that you know what structures or themes to apply. If you are planning to come up with a highly informative, then light colors (or white space) in the text body should be applied, as they make your posts more readable.

You should also consider the kind of content that you are going to post. If you want your blog to be a smorgasbord, i.e. a mixture of photos, videos, sound clips and write ups, then darker color themes would work better.

3. Header and description tags

Finally, what makes a blog appealing to search engines is its use of headers and description tags. The title of your blog has a big role in this area, since it provides adequate information to search engines as to which niche should your site fall under. Header tags also help boost your blog’s ranking in search results, so by using the right keywords, your blog can easily be rise to popularity.

Descriptions also take part of this aspect of choosing the right blog template. Adding the right description on to your blog template do help increase your ranking in page results since they use keywords as well. Remember that when you use the right keywords in describing your blog, search engines would be able to know exactly what kind of audience do you need, and they will be the one to bring subscribers to your blog.

First impression is important. What your readers saw their first time can determine whether or not they will come back for more.

The problem I find is that most free wordpress theme kind of suck. Not only that the free ones have someone else's name at the bottom. Having a custom desines wordpress theme can be very expensive. However I have found that you can find some really good premade themes that don't advertise someone else's name for pretty reasonable amount of money. So my point is I'd rather spend a little bit of money on a nice looking theme because the look and feel of yoru blog reflects greatly on what people think of your blog. i.e. whether or not they trust you and/or are willing to make a purchase from you.

It is time for me to modify my blog template in the following months. As Chester pointed out, first impression is important, and is as important as blog content.

I have to agree with Chester. I personally believe that first impressions are most important as it's that first impression that will cause you to leave and never return. Appearance and how the info is presented to you comes in second.

These factors determine whether I will bookmark a site or just leave.
