Hmm... focus ALL day + close down all the distractions. I doubt whether that's practical
Try focusing on the one task you SHOULD do that day, for the first 2 hours. Do not open your email client or turn you phone on until after. Any windows should pertain to the task at hand - it's not the no. of monitors/windows/tabs. Use your small amount of daily willpower to do it for 30 consecutive days. On the 31st day decide if you want to continue with it. It will be a habit by then so it's no big deal to continue (if u want)

BTW If you can't get yourself to do the most important thing each day, then you need to get a job where you are supervised. If that sounds a bit harsh, then just read it again in a "matter-of-fact" way. Focusing on a website that is not part of your future (for instance), isn't really "focus" is it

I love the irony of the smokers beating the multi-taskers. Many people have mild ADD = 45 secs attention span. Never confuse "activity" with "productivity". People that are ALWAYS busy are often "addicted to their struggle"

Just as a test, if you spend 1-2 hours updating your Facebook profile each day, for eg; you don't really want to count that as "productive" task

If you make an "identity statement" like "I am a multi-task person" you make it (almost) impossible to make a change. If you say that "to become multi-task person requires a lot of prep" then IT WILL require a lot of prep. Why not simply visualise yourself doing a single task, then when you get distracted, visualise yourself catching yourself, closing down the distraction and continuing with the single task

Ha, I sound like a real square!

Yep, this is great! Stick to one major focus all day and close down all the distractions (email/Facebook etc) and you'll be surprised at the end of the day by just how much progress you make.:D

Dude, this problem seems to relate with the one I had some time ago, you just have to focus. Too much multi-tasking hurts badly and yes at the end of the day, we're no where. First off, you've to prioritize things well and with so much work we can do with just a single click now-a-days, you're bound to get distracted and thats all natural so don't panic but this is not good for anyone. We've to make sure at the end of the day we meet our goals and for all other activities we can set weekends for them :)
