Last week I took a look at the myAds system for advertising on MySpace. I have to say, this is definitely worth your time to consider using as a source of paid traffic. MySpace has millions and millions of active users (over 70 million according to MySpace) giving you a HUGE audience for what should remain to be relatively inexpensive CPC rates for at least a while longer.
Advertise to Targeted Demographics
Similar to Facebook, one of the biggest benefits of MySpace myAds is the ability to target specific user groups by demographic data such as age, gender, education, interests, parental status, etc. (are the wheels spinning in your head yet?…they should be!). For instance, according to myAds, you can reach:
- 2.9 Million Sports Fans
- 9.4 Million College Students
- 4.2 Million Fitness Buffs
- 13.5 Million Movie Lovers
- 3.5 Million Book Readers
- 90 Thousand Expecting Moms
That’s dang powerful!
Easy to Use Campaign Manager
How easy it is to use though? I found it very easy. I had my first campaign created within about 8 minutes of clicking the Get Started Today! button. It’s pretty intuitive and even gives you some quick stat boxes shown on the page indicating how many potential unique users you’ll reach along with the suggested bid price per click. These two boxes update automatically as you refine your Target Audience criteria. That’s handy.
The Ad Creative section has the usual ad builder-type of thing. You select the ad size you want from 3 different sizes, then build your ad with text and an image upload. You can also create ads locally and upload them in a completed format.
The system has the usual ad scheduling options, budget and bid options. Plus if you get into the ad creation, but don’t have time to finish it, you can save it and finish later.
Overall I thought the Campaign Manager was pretty simple and straightforward. Pretty much anyone, regardless of your PPC experience, should be able to jump in and figure out your way around the system.
$5 Minimum Daily Budget
One thing required for myAds advertisers is a $5 per day minimum budget to run ads. That’s the minimum setting. That doesn’t mean you’re on the hook for $5 every day your ad is active, it’s just the lowest amount you’re able to set.
$25 Promo Code
As promised, here’s the promo code to get your first $25 worth of free advertising credit for new MySpace myAds advertisers: pro50 Thanks to Lisa for letting me share this with the Blueverse readers!
One word about the promo code. After you create your initial campaign, you THEN sign up for an account. On the account signup screen is where you plug in the promo code “pro50″. I missed it the first time around.
Now’s the time to start testing some traffic from MySpace myAds before everybody and their mothers catch on to the power of the MySpace user base and it’s advertising potential.

I like how the social networking sites are allowing you target certain demographics with their ads. I think it is a good step in finding great targetted traffic. Now if there was only a way for Google to incorporate some sort of demographic feature in its adsense and adwords then there'd be an incredible ad network.
I'll probably save the promo code when I finish my info product since paid ads aren't really useful for many blogs whom solely run on ads itself..

This is very interesting information. I think that it should indeed be tried out and stabilized before it becomes common place. I just hope that it will be cross platform friendly, though I do not see why not.

I hadn't really considered advertising on myspace of facebook before. I have to admit that I didn't know you could target specific demographics with those ads. This is definitely something that I will have to look into further. Thanks!

I never knew you could choose to target certain demographics with social networking ads!
There could be some serious money made in this department!
@Online College
Same here but there are some older people on myspace. I would personally try facebook first.

I ever advertise in facebook, but not yet try to advertise in myspace, i will learn more, thanks.

One disadvantage I find with advertising on these networks is that people there are not actually looking for your particular products. The volumes as far as I have experienced have not been high and also not very good quality. But I am sure that depends on your kind of business.

You are right My space have the millions on targeted audience and if we concentrate on the my space and popular networking for ad's then we can increase our ROI…

Hey it's nice to have this promo code. Thanks. MySpace, similar to facebook has millions and millions of users and if used well, could be really beneficial to an online business. I've started to use Twitter as a promotion tool. I'm planning to use Facebook and MySpace as well.

Question is: are ads on these social networks really effective? I tried ads on facebook (not yet on myspace) and the conversion was non-existent. Seems like people on social network simply disregard ads…. they are there (the people ) to connect not to be bothered…. while if we advertise on google people are in a different state of mind and so here we have the reason for very different conversions between google and social networks…

I hope it's better than Facebook advertising which was incredibly overpriced and had pathetic conversions on a wide range of highly targeted offers.

I have to admit you make a great case for advertising on myspace. the ability to target a specidic audience is very appealing.

Have you guys checked out Facebook advertising as well? It is pretty good similar to Myspace but offers more readers. If you go to Shoemoney's website he has a free $75 code for it for new trial members. Worth a shot.
