There are different ways to make money from your blog. You can do that by placing contextual ads, selling private ads, being a consultant, doing affiliate marketing and doing paid reviews. All these methods make money, but some make more money than the others for different people.
Contextual Ads:- This type is good for sites that have good traffic, so that the readers can click on the ads. I consider contextual ads to be a compensation advertisement; i.e. you are being compensated for having a good blog. If you have a niche blog, contextual ads are regarded as an exit way for your readers to find a solution to their problem because your blog doesn’t have the answer. The best way to use this type of ad is to SEO your blog for search engines and you would reap the benefits.
Selling Private Ads:- Selling private ads is also good for blog that has a lot of traffic. Advertisers would want people to see their link and click on it. If your blog doesn’t have traffic, that means that the possibility of someone clicking the advertiser’s link is reduced. To improve private ad sales, the blogger should improve the blog’s page rank and traffic. It is also good to reduce the blog’s alexa ranking and the bounce rate on the site.
Being A Consultant:- This is good for bloggers that can do other job such as theme design or banner design. If you read the June 09 Income Report for Bluevers.com, you would see that a bulk of the money is from designing banners.
Doing Affiliate Marketing:- Affiliate Marketing is for blogs that have loyal readers so that your readers can buy from your affiliate link. The blogger can also SEO his blog to get search engine traffic. The only negative part is that the blogger has to recommend good programs to his readers, so that his readers would know that he doesn’t recommend a
program to make money out of them, but to help them.
Doing Paid Reviews:- This is like selling private ads. You need to have good page rank. Some advertisers don’t really care about your traffic, they just want a backlink from your site. This is what I would recommend to new bloggers that want to learn how to make money with their blog. The only backlash is that you might lose your page rank if Google
finds out. And when you lose your page rank, not many advertisers would want to advertise on your blog.
I cannot say what method is best to make money from your blog because they have different criteria which not all blogs have. The only way a blog can know is by trying each one on his blog.

What are the other top Online Advertisers? I use Commission Junction which I like a lot. I tried out Linkshare, Bidvertiser, and Adbrite but wasn't that impressed.

Some good ideas to monetize a blog. I believe that what works best differs from blog to blog, and it is about testing what works best for you. But there really are many ways to earn from a blog, and not just adsense type revenue.

I think that being a consultant is a really good option.
Many people blog for ages, but don't pull in much money from ads, affiliate programs. So they give up. That's a pity, because the blog had given them a lot of credibility, and lifted their profile.
I think it's best to see blogging as a stepping stone to other opportunities, rather than just an opportunity in itself.

i think doing affiliate marketing is the best way to make money from your blog because it offer high commission compare to contextual ads. You can choose a product and write a review and promote it with your blog. just my 2 cents.

Need ads on your blog to make income, but don’t overdo it or it looks like a big classifieds page rather than anything with any interesting content.

Affiliate marketing can certainly be profitable, but I think you have to have integrity with it or it will be a dud.
