Some YouTube facts straight from the horse’s mouth… Primarily serve 18-55 year olds (uh, yeah…right…try 8 or 9 to 70 year olds). Founded in February 2005 and launched in December 2005 after getting funded by Sequoia Capital, it only took Google a year to Google Gobble them up.
We’ve talked about YouTube, it’s value and how it should play a part in everyone’s Internet Marketing and general SEO traffic techniques. I won’t rehash the same old stuff on that one.
What I would like to remind you of is the sheer POWER of YouTube in our online world. What many people fail to grasp is YouTube’s place among the ranks of search engines. In fact, many people aren’t ready to think of sites like YouTube as a search engine or source of search traffic. Consequently it’s left out of the SEO strategy altogether by many businesses and marketers that should instead be focusing on capturing this valuable traffic.
This realization is what did it for me:
YouTube is the #2 search engine in the world.
Yes, NUMBER TWO. Second only to Google. That puts it ahead of Yahoo, Bing, Ask.com, etc. This is huge in and of itself, but doesn’t even take into account the power of YouTube results appearing in Google’s search results.
I’ll stop myself before I start into the same ol, same ol that I said I was going to avoid. What I would like to know is how some of you are using YouTube. What are you doing to harness the power of this massive search engine? Share with us in the comments below.

There can be value to watching YouTube… Lots of instructional videos out there – from web design tips to exercise routines and cooking. Or, check out youtube.com/coldwellbanker for example – Companies are creating channels for closer relationships with 'viewers' than TV has to offer!

We've been using Youtube just as a source of links. We can't really make anything viral for any of the projects we do at the moment, so we just post videos with our link in the description and still generate a whole bunch of traffic, which is nice.

You remarked that Youtube is often left out of people's SEO traffic techniques. I thought it would also be useful to point out that people too often leave Google's image search out of their SEO traffic techniques. If you have a number of images and you SEO them correctly, it can be so easy to rank in the image search.

Youtube is a great way to get your site ranked high, so get out there and make some video's. I have used youtube as a search engine for quite awhile, you can find a lot of information out there, and it is in video format. (a lot easier to understand) That figure is amazing though.

Wow those stats are tough to really imagine. A billion is such a huge number and that is a daily stat. That represents such huge income potential for Google. Youtube is actually quite young too. In several years, they could easily double that traffic.

If they would not be on YouTube, they would watch TV or go to football. Apart from that, there are a lot of very useful video tutorials on YouTube and other networks, so I would not underestimate the educational value of video channels.
