I usually don’t post stuff like this, but this is a great deal (as in FREE!) on a decent little desktop product. For all of us who do work online, viruses, spyware and other annoying computer infections are a constant concern. Even if your surfing is always on the up and up and you’re only visiting reputable sites, you still run the risk of an attack on your system. Add email into the mix and all the crap that grandma likes to forward to you, and you have a recipe for certain infection.
I used to be an anti-software protection guy. I figured that 99.9% of the bad things that could happen to my system could be avoided with a little common sense. This was largely born out of the horrible overhead many anti-virus products hit our systems with. Although I still believe common sense was the best protection a few years ago, today it just isn’t so. No matter how smart you are, if you’re doing anything online and not protecting your system with something, you’re asking for trouble.
Fortunately there are lots of free products you can easily deploy to protect yourself. Unfortunately a lot of them suck. Today, however, Check Point is giving away a free license for it’s ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall 2010 (good for use on up to 3 PCs). Normally the software will run you $39.95 for a license. Here’s some of the protection ZoneAlarm Pro will give you:
- Makes you invisible to hackers
- Scans web downloads and warns if they’re dangerous
- Monitors your credit bureau reports
- Works great with any anti-virus or anti-spyware
Check Point, in case you don’t know, is a competitor of Cisco in the Enterprise Firewall arena, so they’re no slouches when it comes to Internet products to protect you from bad people.
By the way, if you’re wondering why I’m pimping ZoneAlarm, it’s because I love getting stuff for free, especially stuff that would normally cost me money any other day of the year. Every once in a while companies do these promotions and I believe in capitalizing on them!
Grab your copy today here: ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall 2010 Free. They’re only running the promotion for 24 hours.

Been using ZoneAlarm for years now and its never failed me. Thanks for the heads-up on this one. Didn't know it was out there until I read this review.

I too used to use this product like so many others years ago, until it nearly ruined not one but two computers. The golden days of Zone Alarm came and went. When you have to literally give your product away for free because few are purchasing it anymore then something is very wrong. If a product is truly worthwhile then it should sell on its own for a reasonable price. This is now the second year in a row they have to GIVE the darn thing away for FREE. I learned long ago you get what you pay for . . . I'll pass.

The biggest issue I had with ZA was the resorces it took up and the last time I had run it it just was brutal with net surfing and downloading.

"Makes you invisible to hackers"? Wow! I wonder how they do it.
It's also interesting how a company could give away a product and stay in business.

What blogging platform is this? Is it free?

Common sense IS the best way to protect yourself online, but I've recently been using the free versions of AVG and MalwareBytes and they seem to work pretty well. I stay away from Norton, Symantec, etc.
Does anyone know how this software compares to AVG or MWB?

I have used zone alarm on and off, but found that it hurts me more than it helps me, for one it seems to stop networking between computers from working, and I never figured out exactly what the problem was.
October 25th, 2009 at 9:36 am
You are right that most of the threats can be avoided by just using common sense. Well nice to hear about the firewall, and will try to use it. thanks

i like to have softwares for protection. This is really a nice software for this purpose

Sounds like a great promotion. That sucks that I missed it. There will always be some shady hackers trying to infect your computer with the latest virus, adware, spyware, trojan, etc. So you can't be too careful. If you're not properly protected, you are painting a big bullseye on your computer.

Yes, I agree there could nothing be better to work against bad things from happening to your system that protecting it yourself. However, questions have been raised on protecting one’s system, because it is so difficult to control viruses especially when always online. I suggest you just check out the various products available to hep you protect your system at all times.
