I’ve been following John Chow at JohnChow.com for a couple of years now. I remember back in the early days of his Make Money Online blog experiment when he was only pulling in a couple grand a month (yeah, I know only a couple grand!). I got to the point where every month I started looking forward to his Monthly Income Report. I found it both inspiring and motivating.
I’ll admit, I was a bit skeptical about the Make Money Online book he and Michael Kwan wrote together. Quite honestly, I find most of these books by authors with another outlet for their content, such as a blog, simply a regurgitation of the same content you can find on their blog. I thought the same thing about Darren Rowse’s Problogger book. That’s both the beauty and curse of books like this.
Make Money Online is not going to revolutionize your life. It IS in fact much of what you can find on JohnChow.com, HOWEVER, I would still recommend it and think it’s worth reading. This applies to newbies and seasoned online money makers alike. Books like this provide great reminders, pointers and if nothing else, renewed inspiration to get off your butt and make something happen.
This is what Make Money Online did for me. If you’re a newbie, you’ll want to read it cover to cover. If you’ve been in the game for a bit, you may want to skip portions. I particularly enjoyed the tips found in chapters 4, 5 and 6, although again, they were more reminders than anything. No matter who you are, you’ll find a gem or two that will make it worth your time.
My favorite chapter was probably chapter 10 that talked about optimizing for Google Adsense. I’ve been a big Adsense poo poo’er for about 2 years, but now I’m starting to change my tune. I’m actually seeing a trend back towards Adsense and seeing it as a solid way to earn money from the content you create, especially for sites and blogs with smaller numbers of visitors. Make Money Online provided some good things to try.
Overall, as I mentioned earlier, I’d recommend Make Money Online to everyone. It’s inexpensive. Only $10.85 on Amazon here: Make Money Online: Roadmap of a Dot Com Mogul. It reads quick and is well worth your time. Check it out today!

Thanks for reviewing this. I've almost purchased it a couple of times but then decided not to. Wasn't sure if it'd be worth it or not.
May 28th, 2010 at 11:54 pm
Dude, I'd definitely buy it. Only $10.85 and worth your time reading it.
May 29th, 2010 at 12:32 am
thanks for the review for the book and your honest review on shoemoney as well. I guess most books are written with beginner in mind simply because you don't know who is reading.
May 29th, 2010 at 7:49 am
$10.85, it is a reasonable price for me. Perhaps I need to purchase one to learn how to make big fortunes on the Internet. Thank you very much!
May 29th, 2010 at 9:11 am
Thanks for this review, i have some money left on Paypal so maybe i will buy it, i will follow my intuition ^^.
May 29th, 2010 at 10:06 pm
One thing is that I want to make money online without spending any cents. If I had bought that book, I guess chapter 10 will also be my favorite because I am trying to make money as much as possible with Google Adsense.
May 31st, 2010 at 3:03 am
Looks like a pretty interesting read. Will definitely give it a try.

I thought it was worth reading. The adsense chapter was most valuable to me.
Good job taking note of it being "regurgitated content"; it should've been written fresh.
June 1st, 2010 at 12:01 pm
John Chow is great I follow him as well. What a great contest he set up. I have seen so many people blogging and their picture with the book. What a great idea.
June 1st, 2010 at 2:46 pm
If it's mostly the same content as on his blog, I would not bother buying this book. Chow has always come across as someone who is more interested in bragging and making more money for himself instead of really trying to help others. So to me all it would be is motivation to try to match his level of success.
June 1st, 2010 at 9:27 pm
Well this shows my committment to the online world, it's the first I've heard of this book.
Now I'm tossing up whether or not to buy it – theres a stage where you have to just stop reading and start acting more, which is really what I feel I need to do more of now.
June 1st, 2010 at 10:01 pm
I purchased your recent one. it was good though. will try this too in the coming weak. hope it will have something what is according to the expectations.
June 2nd, 2010 at 12:24 am
Even if you are making money online already, it still really pays to read these books, because often you find a different view point. I have been making a fulltime income online for awhile now, but everytime I visit blogs like this I find out more information or just learn something from a different angle.
We must never stop learning in what is an ever changing market.
Not sure about adsense though, Google bit me a few years ago and I have never really recovered from it. Still very wary.

Ryan tell me please are you in some kind of affiliate program with John Chow, I read this book it doesn't differ from the rest of Making money online books, same old tactics which are almost generating no revenue.
June 2nd, 2010 at 8:04 am
Agreed I have heard great things aboutt he book and mine is one the way now. I can't wait to get it in the mail.
June 2nd, 2010 at 11:25 am
I am very skeptical about these books.. I never find in them anything apart from some consolidated common sense, but then John Chow is an internet celebrity and a book from him on the subject can be enlightening.. still making my mind.. may be a stronger review will do.
June 2nd, 2010 at 12:42 pm
I have mine on it's way. Did you hear about the contest to get a signed copy if you take your picture with his book. I can't believe how cheap it is as well.
June 3rd, 2010 at 2:04 am
Even the most seasoned marketers need to be reminded. Thanks for this review I wasn't going to pick it up because like you said most books from bloggers are rehashed stuff they've covered in the blog. I think I'll drop the $11 and see what stuff I'm missing out o.
June 4th, 2010 at 6:37 pm
Nope, not an affiliate of Chow's. I may get a few cents if you buy through Amazon, but that's it. I find that books like this selectively help some and don't do anything for others. The simple fact of the matter is John Chow is making some serious coin online. Love him or hate him, believe him or not, it's happening. And funny enough he makes a killing mostly by telling others that he's making a killing. He rarely has anything revolutionary or ground breaking on his blog.
That said, he IS making a killing. And anyone can take what he does, learn from it, and make money online. Just need to understand the principles behind what has made him successful and apply those things in your own way. In my opinion, that's what books like this are good for.
June 4th, 2010 at 1:09 pm
I agree that his strategies are nothing ground breaking. It may be best mostly for motivation. If that guy can make that much money, it makes you think that you should be able to as well. Obviously you're not going to want to try to follow in his exact footsteps, but it might be worth copying some of his strategies.
June 5th, 2010 at 5:42 pm
you are professional.
June 6th, 2010 at 9:02 am
"A few grand a month" sounds good, got to be worth a read, always prefer to see a positive review before buying such books

$10.85? I should check this out…

I am sure that John Chow is now famous when it comes to online marketing.
June 13th, 2010 at 7:58 am
Although i have heard of John Chow over and over, i have been very reluctant to spend any of my time with him and his "system" . To me, it just seems kitchy – same 'ole stuff. I have to give him koodos, though, because he seems to profit from it.
June 14th, 2010 at 4:42 am
This was a very good post, I found it to not only be very helpful information but also touched on what I was researching for. Keep up the work!
June 15th, 2010 at 2:33 am
I got the book too… great information and $10 is good price… there are a lot of ebook with much less info that sell for much more!
June 16th, 2010 at 6:13 am
Thanks for sharing your reviews.I think it will helpful and useful for everyone.
June 16th, 2010 at 6:01 pm
Most people that have been online for sometime have heard of the John Chow's of the world. He has done an exceptional job of branding his name and yes, make a lot of money online. Where I think most internet marketers get off target is too much information online and not knowing where to start. I give you a lot of kudos for stating your monthly income results. Although not what you expected or hoped for, it is still a learning experience on what not to do.

Back links – this should be your main goal. Get lots of them from all over. Ya, there are thousands of opinions on each topic listed here, but I spend 90 percent of my time getting back links to rank on page 1 and ultimately position 1.

Thanks for the review. I`m considering the purchase since it cost's quite fair for the information. Im not really into John but i`ll give this one a shot. Thanks for the review, im hoping i`ll gain if I finally decide to grab the book.

Thank you so much free stuff, but too often these things on the Internet can provide a useful point of it?

All of these methods are good methods to make money online if you know what youre doing, if you have money to invest, if you have time to spare and to wait for income some time down the road, if you have a list.

I love John Chow, he is amazing and rich! A great inspiration to all newbies out there.
June 29th, 2010 at 4:35 pm
I just finished reading the book myself. The book coupled with the FREE report is an awesome combination. While there are subtle differences, both of them combined are very good for anybody who's into making money through blogging online.

Making money online is hard but not impossible. With the right knowledge and methods, one can rake in high amounts of cash from a business. Your blog is exactly what beginners like me need and has convinced me to pick up the book.
June 30th, 2010 at 5:52 am
wonderful post , keep doing
July 1st, 2010 at 1:16 am
hey
I just came across your website. It is truly excellent and very valuable resource in today’s economy.
Making money online is really simple. You don’t need any knowledge to start earning cash. There is a lot of ways to earn money, but remember that it IS possible to make money online. Users who claim that earning cash from home is scam, haven’t made a penny because they didn’t try it.
Personally I use a plugin name "dynamixgate wpbay"for making affiliate stores with ebay and found it amazing.its a place where anyone can find great ways of making money from home
well thanks for sharing this good post with us

A lot of useful blogging and wordpress tips, congrats.
July 4th, 2010 at 7:46 pm
For the cheap price I figure it's worth checking it out. It's apparently more about making mone blogging than making money online which is generally a pretty large niche to tackle and i feel the book would have been a bit to general on many topics.
July 5th, 2010 at 1:31 am
Very useful article, thanks.
July 5th, 2010 at 11:28 am
Thanks for sharing a nice book, i am going to purchase it as i m also looking for some tactics about making money online

Greet information, the adsense chapter was the better for me, positive reviews are the keys to decide
July 5th, 2010 at 3:02 pm
Yes as much as people love to hate him, he is very successful. His tactics just aren't for everyone. Trying to follow in his footsteps would likely result in big disappointment.

I have always been interested in making money online. I have read a multitude of articles online talking about getting big bucks on the web. Perhaps it pays if I try to get a load of his book and see what I'm missing out. I might get some effective techniques.

John Chow is the guy who is supposed to be the best blogger on earth, right? I've heard of him. Isn't he supposed to have a new training program out? I'm going to get the book.

Thanks for the review, especially the comment about adsense. I use it, but I don't think I do a good job with it. I get the odd click here and there, so advice on how to use it would be helpful, especially placement and colours.
Thanks
