Those of you who have done any advertising on Facebook Ads know EXACTLY what I’m talking about. Sometimes it just seems like the Facebook Ads review team is smokin some kind of funky dope or tossing back the hooch while clicking through ad submissions. For those of you who are unaware of what I’m talking about, let me give you some quick background. Then I’m going to reveal the ONE THING you need to be successful making money online no matter what the method you choose.
Facebook is a monster traffic source. They have taken over the #1 spot for most trafficked site on the Internet. Hitwise.com has shown Facebook at the top spot for several months now…even over Google. Google themselves are reporting over 550,000,000 unique visitors a month for Facebook. That represents a heck of a lot of traffic for whatever offer, business or service you want to promote. It’s an affiliate marketer’s dream come true.
PLUS, Facebook Ads is drop dead simple to use. You can use your existing Facebook account, fill out a few fields, write some short copy, upload an image and you’re set. Targeting is reasonable and stats are pretty decent. There are plenty of people killing it with Facebook ads to affiliate offers alone.
BUUUTTTT…there’s one massive pain in the butt thing about the whole process. The review/approval process. This is where I’m convinced Facebook has a hooch n’ hash provider plan for it’s review team. There’s just no rhyme or reason to the process. You attempt to follow the guidelines Facebook has published by writing compliant ads, yet you still get bitch slapped.
Case in point is a campaign I built on Monday around a credit card offer. I targeted females in the US in 5 different age ranges. I had 2 versions of ad copy and about 15 images. When all was said and done, I had submitted about 160 ads total. Keep in mind though, that it was just split testing those items. The copy was more than compliant as were the images. No question there. YET…initially about half of the ads were disapproved. Then, over time, another half of those were disapproved.
The strange thing is, I still have about 30 to 40 of the ads running in the Facebook campaign. Some of the ads that were disapproved were done so AFTER the ads had already been served up and even generated some clicks. It seems to me that a non-compliant ad worthy of disapproval would be the same across the board. Yet the exact same ad was sometimes approved and other times disapproved.
Unfortunately, this is just the haphazard nature of Facebook and their ad review team. Everyone has experienced it. Part of the Facebook Advertising gig I suppose.
A valuable lesson can be found in all of this though. In fact, it’s so important, it could easily be deemed the MOST important lesson you can learn in your journey to making money online success. It’s one single word: PERSISTENCE!
Yep, persistence. That’s the single thing that separates the online successes from the failures. Sure experience can make your efforts more effective and your life a little easier. Vats full of extra cash sitting around the house also helps. But at the end of the day, if you’re persistent, you will be successful. It’s near impossible to not be. Now I’m certainly not advocating you willy nilly piss money away, but do it persistently. But I AM saying you need to buckle down and keep trying.
If you’re a seasoned veteran, keep at it. You’ve likely already learned the persistence lesson and it’s paying off for you.
If you’re relatively new to affiliate marketing or making money online, you need to heed my advice. Just because something isn’t going the way you want it to, don’t give up. If you’ve tried Facebook and it’s “just too hard”, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don’t give up. Keep trying. You will find success. Test everything. Try thinking about things in a new light, Take different approaches, but keep trying.
The word of the day…say it with me…persistence!

Great lesson and I totally agree. Yuor experience in facebook ads and let me just add blogging too requires persistence. You will not experience success overnight however just couple persistence with hardwork, perseverance and patience and you'll surely, truly make it.

I've just started advertising on Facebook and can't say I've run into this problem yet. Then again, my campaign is relatively small. From my limited experience I found the Google AdWords review team to be more strict than Facebook. When an ad can be approved by one reviewer and declined by another, it can actually be used to the advertiser's benefit. As you said, you just have to be persistent. Just try submitting the ad copy again, with minor changes if necessary.
July 16th, 2010 at 2:46 pm
That's really strange – sounds like they have a lot of people reviewing the ads and they're not all on the same page about what's acceptable and what's not. What a mess…
July 16th, 2010 at 7:54 pm
I thought about using the Facebook advertising program. I still might! It sounds like they need to revamp the way that they are processing your ads though.

You must definitely not give up, and try different approaches. Sometimes it feels like nothing is ever working for you and others are not letting you get threw, but like you said persistence is the key. I know in the past myself I have been denied by many authorities online, but I've never given up, and have continually stood up again, and said, Here I am again, lets do this!
Till then,
Jean

Yeah…Facebook is a great source for getting new customers or visitors to our links. It can be difficult for a newbie. But with some experience he can become successful with facebook. So, do not give up and use facebook ads if you can.
July 19th, 2010 at 10:19 pm
This may seem silly but for me to persist I had to get some thicker skin. I was so sensitive that the first time I had an ad disapproved I wanted to quit and slink off with my tail between my legs. Thank you for the encouragment to keep going.
July 19th, 2010 at 10:57 pm
yeah mate i found facebook too hard. so i gave up. After reading your article i think i should it another go.
Anyways lovely piece of photography.

I guess that's just gives us an implication that no matter how accessible and reliable Facebook is, when it comes to advertising they're implementing rules in which we posters aren't aware of what their rules are. maybe they've had their review team of which are hard to please at a certain points.
July 22nd, 2010 at 1:14 am
Persistence really is the key to success. I very much agree with you. Thanks for the tips, I learned a lot.
July 22nd, 2010 at 2:40 am
Although I agree that your one word – persistence – is key, I really wish it wasn't needed (and not just with Facebook ads). The word should be consistency – and the companies should be consistent in the decisions they make – if one ad is "wrong" then all identical ones should be wrong and it shouldn't depend on which ever person at Facebook has their hand on the "delete" button that particular hour. Rant over.
July 22nd, 2010 at 8:21 am
I agree. Persistence is the key to success.
July 22nd, 2010 at 11:03 pm
I do agree with you pal. Persistence and hard work are two important formulas to become successful in our chosen fields. Failures should not stop us neither daunt us in reaching our goal. Very inspiring post, keep it up!!

Facebook is really one of the big factors that caused a traffic in the world wide web. I often suffer on my connection every time I open my facebook account. Great tips from this article. Very helpful.

I've just started my second ad campaign, and I'm working on the different ways to tweak the ad. Would you recommend sending them to your website, or to the Facebook fan page?
July 26th, 2010 at 7:25 pm
Yeah, sometimes it seems random what they will approve. I understand their concerns in not bothering their users, but lots of the apps, survey requests and such on there are more annoying to me.
July 27th, 2010 at 10:57 pm
Yes, it's true. I face a difficult too, when i try to add my ads on facebook. Really hard. We must set our ads word very very carefully. Facebook didn't accept any ads about Money Game or Multi Level Marketing. It's really sad

Patience, persistence and hard work, are all things that are necessary to run a good business. I do think the facebook ads have got on my nerves. I think they are trying to monetize too much.
August 2nd, 2010 at 9:57 pm
Reading to this post i am confuse to advertise on facebook or not. But like you said at that last sentence "Keep tyring", "Try everything", "Try Thinking soemthing new" ————and atlast "persistence". So i have decided to advertise on facebook and sure i will get success, thanks for motivation.

August 3rd, 2010 at 4:53 am
You're darn right when you talk about persistence. It takes strength to keep pushing and not give up at the first hurdle. Providing you're taking the right actions, and you keep pushing; it isn't long until you've generated enough momentum to give you a lot of options that you previously didn't have. Vats full of extra cash does indeed help too =P

I tried putting up an ad for some home improve products like american standard and coult not get any decent traffic from facebook.
August 3rd, 2010 at 1:35 pm
I thought my facebook advertising experience was running smoothly. Then out of the blue, several of my ads were disapproved. These ads had already been up for a couple weeks and had been approved once before. Unfortunately a pickier reviewer came across my ads and decided they broke some rule. Now to get it reviewed again I have to make a whole new ad. What a pain in the ass.
August 3rd, 2010 at 1:56 pm
Appreciate your patience. Most people/businesses don't have this attitude and hence they fail on social media marketing. Things that happened in your experiences are not under your control other than your how you react towards them but business are losing control even on those they can, say a social media profile.

Facebook ad is definately the hottest kind of method to promote online. It is targeted, measurable, cost effective and everything. Thanks for the information!
August 4th, 2010 at 12:29 am
I don't think the guys behind FaceSpace are necessarily puffin' the sacred herbage or hitting the bottle hard, I think they just want to be progressive with their marketing and not be considered Kings of Cliche. I think it works too – something leaning towards nutty is gonna get people talking and make them wonder a bit more than they would with more traditional advertising.

Hooch is the MSG of the booze world – it obviously enhances all ;P
August 4th, 2010 at 11:25 am
They are constantly upgrading something. I think it will happen the same with review/approval process.
August 5th, 2010 at 7:12 am
You've hit the nail on the head. It's so easy to give up on a strategy just because it seems to be failing initially, but when you keep at it with persistence it surprisingly starts yielding results – I guess it has to do with mental focus, the more you focus on something the more you start uncovering and there is so much to uncover in every vista.
I would love it if you could give more tips on how to use facebook to promote a website (not product based but simply a content based website). Thanks.

Whats the costs like for using Facebook ads, is it free or relatively low?
If it's either then they may be overworked and it's a case of what mood the person who assesses your ad is in.
August 29th, 2010 at 10:19 pm
I also experienced this from Facebook. I wasn't able to see my ads online, I wonder if it got published or just simply screened and removed.
August 31st, 2010 at 2:42 pm
I have experienced this once. My ads seemed to have been removed from the listings. I didn't even see a single sight of my ads in Facebook.

Well, this facebook sure many will be hook by this contest. However, the criteria seems to lack integrity for a fact that there is no accurate method to measure one's influence over others online. It's so hard to determine if the influence made is fake. But great concept anyway and i hope it will be successful. Cool post.

I haven't tackled facebook ads yet. One of these days when I have more experience at this online stuff, thanks for the warning. I would imagine that the reviewers at facebook are given guidelines, but there is probably so much coming at them it's easier to disallow something than get into trouble later on by saying yes. I guess who ever supervises them is having a really difficult time getting them to be consistent. He or she probably has to explain the guidelines several times a day.

Lol, that is a great post, yes you dont need to pay for adds when social networking, just create a profile and get the right people interested on your product by using porpular subjects and themes, thats what people like, to talk about anything as professionals of the subject lol
