This may seem like a strange topic, but I think it’s actually an important one. I personally believe that every person looking to make money online (or offline for that matter) needs to have business cards. This may be born out of my love for business cards and borderline collector status of them, however I still think their an important part of business success.
Here are 3 reasons why you need business cards:
1. You need to be networking and leaving people with your information.
This is probably the most important reason of the three. Business cards are an easy way to leave people with your contact details. Having them handy encourages you to network with other people in your field, those you want to learn from, and those you may be able to help with your blog, web sites, services or products. If you aren’t networking with others, frankly, you should question whether or not earning a living online is for you. There’s a host of ways and reasons to network, but I’ll save those for another post.
2. You need to approach your online endeavors like a business.
For me, one of the thrills of entrepreneurship is the process of getting things going. I love coming up with ideas for businesses, web sites and products, then seeing them take form and develop. Solidifying things by printing business cards is an important step that many people skip. For me, it represents the commitment I have to approaching my online ventures as a business or businesses. Sure I’ve got some hobby sites, but the sites and products that pay the bills are part of a business. I take them seriously, from hosting to accounting, and everything in between. Having a business card with a site or business name on it shows I’m serious about what I’m doing…which leads to #3…
3. They show you’re serious about what you’re doing.
For some reason, even the most boring of business cards show that a person is serious about making their business a success. This holds true regardless of what you’re in the business of, whether it be blogging, web site development or making virtual barrels of monkeys. That little scrap of card stock legitimizes your business and tells other people they need to take you seriously. It may not always work, but it’s a step in the right direction.
You may already have the business card side of things covered. If so, good work. If not, consider getting some printed. Taking your business serious, even if it’s just starting out, is the first step towards making money from it.

It does seem that business cards have gone a bit out of vogue and it will be interesting to see in the next 10-15 years if the business card goes the same way as the beeper. I think that business cards will be around for a while for the simple fact that they are a phenomenal networking tool, as you said in point #1. However, as smart phones saturate the market the physical business card may become extinct.

Business Cards leaves a impression and it always drives me nuts when the person handed me a card has a long or hot-mail email account when they have a websites. Just looks bad when a Real Estate agent works for C21 and their business card had blank@Yhaoo.com
