I doubt there’s very many of us who love to make money online or make money blogging, that hasn’t played Monopoly. The accumulation of property, a fat stack of colorful bills, and assets on our properties is enough to drive any little kid (or let’s face it, adult) into entrepreneurship.
Not only that, Monopoly can help teach the simple skill of negotiation. Figuring out what you want to give up, in order to get something of more valuable to you. And how to orchestrate a deal so others will see things your way. That can carry you a long way in life.
The Wall Street Journal published an article in the weekend edition titled Go Directly to Success: Monopoly’s Lessons. The article drew 5 lessons out of the popular board game:
- Diversification
- Cash Management
- Return on Investment
- Complacency
- Negotiations
The first 3 of the 5 are things I think about quite a bit actually. I feel they’re key to a successful business. Large or small. Online or offline.
Check out the article here: Go Directly to Success: Monopoly’s Lessons. It’s worth the read!
Hi,
Read the article! Very true, and cute! I was obsessed with the game as a kid! I was always (not sure why) the iron. I just liked it. Sad they're getting rid of it. I was also a bit obsessive about being the banker.
Ironic as I've been working for myself now since the year 2000. I had a large retail craft store in a big city for close to 10 years and since I sold that and somewhat during that time I've worked online.
Maybe it's a good thing my 14 yr old daughter loves the game!
Thanks for the good post! Always enjoy reading your blog. (especially lately re:SEO & Goo.)

+ know your chances. With jail and chance that brings you to specific location, the chance of landing yourself at some properties are much higher.
Hi Ryan,
I read throughout your post , these are good tips to run or start a successful business. Monopoly is one of the teacher of us by which we learn something special that no one can teach us.
Thanks & Regards
Susan
Thanks for giving nice tips i hope it is helpful to me….
Hi Ryan
I agree with with all five point which detonated above . Monopoly leads your business ahead. So before starting any types of business we will have to involve first our business monopoly and will have to show that which types of services we offering and that is different from other.
Thanks for this valuable guideline.
