Beta Adsense for Videos

Feb 23rd 2008 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

Adsense for videos was launched in beta a few days ago, what i like about these units is that youtube is like the most watched video/entertainment site on the net and having ads within the videos can really really increase the revenue, which also makes me think why cant we make flash players to insert adsense into flash?

I’ll say this right now, i am not a coder so I have no idea if this is doable but if it is its worth giving it a shot, google is.. Self hosted videos, with adsense…thats where the money is!

Imagine sites like Veoh and Miniclip having ads within their flash games and videos, they could increase their revenue by 250% at least by my calculations!

More money is what it all boils down to.  If we can start seeing our incomes increase by the hard work we are doing on our blogs, what more inspiration do you need?  Money is the best inspiration to keep adding fresh new content to your blog and to keep practicing your SEO skills.

Many people don’t realize that some businesses are willing to pay quite a bit more for certain keywords that are related to products the company offers, which in turn makes it worth more money to adsense publishers.

The more generalized your blog is, the less your clicks will be worth.  Try blogging about specific items and companies to see what kind of ads start showing up in those posts.  These will be the ones worth the most to you.

Here is a good example of a site that gets almost 100 clicks per day but only makes a measly $4 with about 750 page impressions.  tattooideasandmore.com  Yes it’s mine, I bought this from someone about 7 months ago when it was brand new.  However, I managed to get on the front page of Google for a good keyword phrase by using the SEO Tips that I learned right here at BlueVerse before I started writing here.

It always amazes me to see the high number of  clicks with only the few dollars of profit.  Now if I were to start adding content to this site that relates to certain tattoo parlors or tattoo manufacturers, I’m sure the amount per click would dramatically increase.

Now, here’s another of my sites, heatknowledge.com  I bought this from a DP member and added quite a bit to it.  This site has a higher paying set of keywords I know, but you can see how I’m targeting certain keywords and getting certain ads to appear on my pages.  I still have a long way to go with it as far as SEO, but I’m happy overall with the traffic Google has already sent me and with the value of the clicks.

You can make more money to keep you inspired by mentioning brand names and talking about specific products in your posts.  You will be amazed at how much of a difference there can be for one site.  It could be just a few cents or a few dollars per click, it’s all in how you target your keywords.

Blogging about products gives you another way to keep adding fresh content on your blog.  It’s a win-win situation for you to mention specific products.  It’s hard for me to tell you what words to use without knowing your niche, but I’m sure you will have some idea of what they would be.

Good Luck and Keep Blogging!!

Blackhat Explained

Jan 20th 2008 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

I always get carried away with my niches at hand and forget about the ones that once earned me the most money so im taking one step back and talking about blackhat seo, back in november i posted about my MFA Site.

To make it simple - Blackhat is simply Valid Usable Content Generation

You can go about blackhat in 2 ways, either spam othersites with links or generate content, the less “slimy” way to do this is generating content and alot of it, content generation and its categorization should be prioritized while making sites that would earn you money.

If you spam other sites with keyworded links to rank higher on google that will definitely get you a higher ranking at google but this will be gone in 2-3 weeks as soon as your site is reviewed completely and their algo picks up on those spammy links that you’ve been throwing around or been placing using autobots, and you’ll be back to square 1..

My most tried and tested method is to generate humor content sites based on apis or feeds or databases that have several entries and the output would be relevant and the script would output the relevant keywords and titles for meta tags as well. The mfa site i mentioned above costed me hardly $40 and earned me nearly $4000 within 1 and a half months, blackhat at its best.

From my personal experience i’d say people shouldn’t “sell” seo but practice it on their own and learn as trends change they should progress with it too, different people different ethics.

I guess if people make a big enough stink, Google will listen. It is apparent with Google’s recent announcement that they are listening to disgruntled webmasters who don’t like the changes that were recently made to the Adsense referral program. They have listened to the feedback received and decided to make an amendment to the original pay structure to be dependent on where your referral comes from and not where you are located at. I’m sure it had something to do with Gnet’s post about Adsense Referral Units, when Gnet talks Google listens.

This means that you can still live in any country and make decent money referring those who live in North America, Latin America and Japan.

This gives webmaster a reason to keep targeting quality traffic and to be able to get quality users to refer to Google.

It makes sense for Google to structure it this way instead of cutting you out of the money altogether if you live outside those certain areas, after all it’s the new referrals that mean the most to Google no matter where you are referring them from.

It’s nice to know that Google is listening to it’s publishers and referrers to the program.

They also mentioned that it has been reported many users don’t have any Adsense referrals showing in their stats. Google reports this is just a display problem and that it will be fixed as soon as they can get it done but your earnings are still there adding up, they just aren’t displaying.

You can read about it for yourself at the Google Adsense Blog to find out in more detail what changes have been made to the recent announcement made by Google.

I received an email today from adsense stating that whatever referrals i have sent to adsense i will continue earning from them but in the future there will be no more adsense referral units.

To be honest I’m kinda angry at the moment because this was far more easier then CPC could ever be, ill update this post if i get more info.

Hello,

We are writing to share some important information with you about
referrals to the AdSense product. As part of ongoing efforts to
optimize revenue opportunities for our publishers, we’re
constantly experimenting with new revenue-enhancing features as
well as tweaking those products already available to our
publishers. This is the case for referral units directing visitors
to sign up for AdSense. After experimenting with this program
over the past year, we’ve concluded that there are other products
that are of higher value than this program to publishers in your
region. As a result, referral units for the AdSense program will
be retired in the coming weeks. Referrals to other products and
services remain unaffected.

If you’re currently displaying referral units on your site
directing users to sign up for AdSense, read on below for details
about what to expect in the coming weeks.

In early January, the option to add referral units directing users
to the AdSense product will no longer appear in your account. You
will continue to accrue earnings for all existing referrals yet to
generate $100 until late January, at which point the program will
be fully retired. Existing referral units will continue to appear
on your pages.

By the end of January, you should remove all referral units
directing users to AdSense from your pages. Referral units
that you do not remove will continue to be displayed on your pages
as normal, but conversions will no longer be recorded. We
suggest you replace the AdSense referrals with referrals to
another product or service or an additional ad unit.

Thank you for referring users to AdSense in the past. We
apologize for any inconvenience this news may cause.

Sincerely,

The Google AdSense Team

The Pros and Cons of Blogging for Money

You Blog, it’s become a part of your life (addictive isn’t it), and you spend a lot of time doing it. Should you earn from Blogging? How should you earn, and will turning your skills into a money spinner affect the integrity of your blog? These are all important questions to consider for the average blogger. In offering some tips, I am certainly not prescribing any course of action, because I believe the choices we all make in this area are highly personal ones. I would like, however, to point out some of the pitfalls I have experienced in this area and some of the things I have found to work.

The first question you should ask yourself is how am I going to earn money from Blogging? There are two main methods, Direct and Indirect. Direct income is best described as ‘Pay per Blog’, in that you get paid a fixed dollar amount for providing blog content for another person. It is a good way to build up a fixed amount of money, and a certain amount of experience, in the paid blogging industry. It is low risk, as you will be engaged by a third party and paid either per blog or per time period, say per month. There are no costs to yourself, such as web hosting or other advertising costs, and you will post onto a forum with an existing readership. Visit DigitalPoint to start searching for paid blogging positions.

The Second Method is to utilize your blog to earn cash for you. This will probably take the form of Advertising. The most common ad-program used by bloggers is Google Ad sense, but there are many others. For a great Introduction to this subject see Problogger.

When you have decided on your method of income generation, I believe it is time to ask yourself the question, should I really utilise my blog to earn income? Many people would argue that this is the first question you should ask, but I disagree. I believe that many bloggers, who are not already making money, need to know how before they can ask should I? Next time, the dangers of becoming a money blogger. TTFN

What JPMorgan Says About Ad Networks

Jan 5th 2008 - Posted by Mary Stage

JPMorgan stated in an earlier released report called “Nothing But Net” that Ad Networks are on the rise. They define an ad network as a network who transacts, serves, tracks and reports the distribution of advertiser’s ads to the publisher’s pages. They also enable marketers the ability to advertise on many publisher sites through one central location. Publishers earn money from advertising revenue on ad networks without having to invest in a sales team or have products to sell. Ad networks also vary in the way they target a specific group of people and ways for publishers to earn with CPM, CPC, and CPA. Advertising revenues are determined by revenue share agreements in an ad network.

With that said, here’s there prediction they give for the future of ad networks in general. The global graphical advertising market as a whole will benefit from increased users using the internet to get their information and by the increased RPM’s as targeting a certain audience becomes more clear. This sector of the market is expected to increase by 22% according to the statistics of ComScore and JPMorgan.

More marketers are expected to use ad networks along with their other marketing styles this year than ever. You can see how more marketers who advertise on ad networks benefit the publishing community as a whole as a way to monetize their content contained on websites and blogs.

JPMorgan predicts that with the behavioral targeting methods now being used by the major networks will increase CPM’s and drive volume. Marketers like the idea of being able to target a certain audience and are willing to pay more for it. They say that the development of video-ad’s with contextual advertising will be valued by the ad network space.

We know that Google has been experimenting with the best way to use video ads through YouTube and BlueVerse is interested to see how this plays out over the next year. Video Capabilities certainly raise an interest when trying to target a specific user who is searching for information.

Even a newer idea is the mobile phone advertising industry. JPMorgan is watching for the development of a Google Phone device with a platform to display ads. The iPhone has the capabilities of displaying ads so we’ll watch how the success of mobile display ads develops for existing platforms.

JPMorgan also notes that with the capabilities of behavioral advertising paired up with contextual advertising will add pressure to the ad networks to deliver conversions.

The most successful ad networks will be the ones who have a nice variety of advertising platforms for its marketers with targeting capabilities playing a big role as well.

More New Adsense Ads Seen!

Dec 20th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

I posted earlier about the Click to Call ads and today while reading my feed reader, there was a post by copy blogger New Interactive AdSense Unit with Pictures Spotted, the ad is below and the way adsense is trying out new things i think its trying to compete with the new product based cpa ad networks that sprung in 2007 like AuctionADs and Widgetbucks.

To be honest, I’d love more ad types at adsense it gives me a wider tool selection to work with specially while making MFAs.
I still wonder, will google ever give more control over ads served to publishers?
