Blogging and Article Marketing

Feb 9th 2008 - Posted by Mary Stage

Many bloggers simply overlook article marketing as a way to promote their sites. If you want to make money blogging, this is a good way to get you moving in the right direction.
Every blogger who wants to make money online needs to write a few good articles on their niche and submit them to the top article directories. This will not only help you with your traffic numbers, it could prove to be a good way to get quality links pointing to your blog, and lots of them, if you write an informative article. Many webmasters only use content that comes from such article directories which must be used with your biography or resource box included, giving you all those free links.

If you’re a regular reader of Blueverse.com you will already know what this can do for the SEO of your blog.

Bloggers must look at writing an article to be submitted at an article directory as a way to build many links at once and not just as a way to get a few visitors to your web site. These are the best kind of links to have, they come from many different websites and will help to push your blog to the front page of Google for your targeted keywords.

Just make sure you get the most out of your resource or biography box by linking your website to the anchor text of the keywords you are wanting to rank high for.

I’ll bet you’ve already thought of a quality informational article you could write up in just a few minutes that would keep giving you links for many months to come, so what are you waiting for? Get out there and start submitting your articles to article directories, you will find that the bloggers who currently make money online, and lots of it, are all expert authors at the top article directories.

Targetting Multiple Keywords for the Homepage.

Jan 25th 2008 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

At first i was only targetting the keyword “SEO Blog” somewhere along the line i got greedy and i wanted to target my homepage for Blogging Tips , Make Money Online and Freelancing Tips as well - This goes against my siteplan for this blog to begin with but then i started thinking what if.

What if i can rank well for all 3 keywords and still keep the site relevant, as far as i know if i do all 3 there will be a fair bit of irrelevant content on the site for some visitors, my rankings at the moment are:

This one really took the piss out of me..

shoemoney-serps-script_1201208589546.png

This one was fairly easiy ;p

shoemoney-serps-script_1201208602593.png

I started targeting “make money online” last night so yep it still counts

shoemoney-serps-script_1201208619296.png

This one was easier then i thought

shoemoney-serps-script_1201209326375.png

Since my blog is technically a pr6 and i have a butt load of authority for most serps i can easily get into the top 20s or 30s but the top 10 spot is what im most interested in!

Here are a few of my aims to keep in mind while targeting multiple keywords for your home page.

  • Make sure every keyword you are aiming for has a link to the category page or post page, with relevant content
  • Links from relevant sites
  • In-content links (link love/mentions)
  • Alot of on-site seo - Meta tags/Titles/Descriptions and even 301s
  • Must have sufficient support from social networks for each keyword (diggs..stumbles..etc)
  • Unique and creative content - your content must be above average if you are trying to rank for something big

Thats all i have for now, subscribe to me for more updates as i get them! :D

Blog. Like anything else, is all about substance, or in techspeak, content. How do you entertain a readership who has such short attention spans and even shorter memories? This is not meant to offend any of my readers (Fine people, with vast intellects) but it is a well known phenomenon that the attention span of even the most intelligent person drops significantly whilst surfing the net. Read about studies on this phenomenon here . Therefore it is sometimes a struggle to keep coming up with eye-catching material, often on a daily (if not twice or thrice, daily) basis. Looking at the various tipsters and dedicated web sites provides a huge and conflicting body of the kind of self help guru stuff which is bundled up together in a ghastly book entitled ‘Ten Top Tips of Successful Bloggers.’ (This, if I can find a publisher, will be on sale soon, folks.)

There are people who will tell you to Think Like a Blogger and whilst this is a good idea, it does require a definition of what a blogger is, and that is where this article departs from the rest of How To’s in general. I don’t really think too much about what I write, I tend to surf, in a very broad area, read a few articles until an idea occurs to me, and then I write what I think. In other words, I am an opinionated person, and my opinions form my blogs. It is that simple really. Obviously there is a certain amount of linguistic competency needed, as well as some panache of delivery (or not as the case may be.) In general most blogs that I have read, which I consider to be ok, are well written opinions of something, be it Music, Technology, Alien Abductions, Whatever. Is it something you get better at over time, yes, of course. Is it something that you need to have an affinity for, well yes but people can learn to blog. The real question, is how useful are articles on how to blog, and the answer is very grey, it is useful to learn others opinions, because whether you agree or disagree with what they say it will give you something to write about. How much use the actual advice is? This varies very widely and what people tend to forget is that we are a very diverse breed of people, made up of significantly different life experiences and inspired by very different things. What works for me (writing in the nude, no only kidding!!) may not work for you. Therefore we come full circle, opinions matter, and the more well formed your opinion, the better the blog. Ta Ta for Now

Unless of course you are living in a cave, in the middle of nowhere, with no media, not even a newspaper (in which case you’re not reading this Blog), you cannot have missed the news that we are on the brink of a global credit crunch (the new, sexed up term for a depression.) So what? I’ll probably still have a Job/House/Computer etc and I’ll still be able to read TimK’s wonderful blogs? Right? You’re probably saying to yourself, things can’t be that bad. Well, you’re right, things are never as bad as the Financial Press make it seem, they are just as desperate for things to write about as all of us, and Doom and Gloom sells like hotdogs at a ballgame. Yet there are some surprising consequences of the Global Credit Crunch that are going to significantly affect the way all of us access and utilise technology. This current crisis is because of the long period of sustained growth that most mature western economies have experienced in the last ten years, fuelled by the emerging markets of India, China and Russia, amongst other things. Much of the funding for new and existing web based technology is based on share issues and venture capitalism. These are two areas which have benefited with large amounts of surplus cash washing into the investment markets from generally good economic conditions, and as such investors were willing to take a higher than average risk. Now the money is being choked off, the investment community will be less likely, or have more stringent conditions for prospective stat ups. In an economic downturn there will be less investment, especially in high risk areas such as the dot com industry. Moreover the big players in the market will start to both rationalise and consolidate their positions (read about the business brains behind Vivendi and Activision here)

This could lead to a reduction in the number of products hitting the markets (there is unconfirmed speculation that the iPhone was rushed to market in the last half of last year as Apple knew the midden was about to hit the windmill.) Companies looking to prop up their Balance Sheets may begin to cut R&D back, as there will be less consumer cash for the new products anyway, and existing products may fair better or worse depending on how bad things get (for example the Wii V PS3 battle will become one not of game play, but of price, as the Wii is significantly cheaper than its rival, an economic downturn will actually benefit Nintendo.) The fact is that it effects us all, sometimes in positive, but mainly in negative ways, so buckle up for a bumpy 2008.

Anyone wanting an introduction to finance and investing can read my blog, same user name TimK, happy trails everyone.

Better Blogging - Design/Wordpress Theme Resources.

Jan 7th 2008 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

Design is the most important part of a site/blog in my opinion, visitors aren’t spiders they do care about the design you have on so its important that you make sure that the design you have on is nothing short of amazing, some people would pay for a professional design but there are over a million free wordpress themes that people tend to ignore just because they are free…kinda unfair i’d say..

Stop Wasting Your Money!

Jan 4th 2008 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

This is a guest post by Joe Tamargo from SundayBrew Media on money management.

Yea, the title says it all , and I am not your “perfect speaking” blogger neither. Now when I say perfect speaking I don’t mean that I don’t use spell check, I actually just mean that I speak what I is on my mindall the time, and the best part is you can take what you want and leave the rest.

Now normally my posts wouldn’t have that long intro but since this is my first “blueverse.com” post , I might as well said who I was :)

Oh yea, never said , My name is Sundaybrew, aka Joe Tamargo, and I have been a full time webmaster for 4 years, and have been working / playing on the pc since the commodore 64.

On to the topic!

Stop wasting your money!

Here is some things that YOU WILL waste money on through out this year, if you do not listen.

  1. Logo designs
  2. crappy articles / content
  3. websites as a whole
  4. domain names
  5. paid blog posts ( some are worth value )
  6. directory submissions ( Yes, some are also worth it, some are junk )
  7. All kinds of random odd webmaster stuff
  8. Get Rich now ebooks

How do I know that you WILL waste all this money in the upcoming year?….Well because I have been there and done that, I know what worth buying and whats not, from the 1000’s of dollars that I have personally spent in development in the last 4 years, and to this date, me and my wife have built over 500+ sites in the last three years. So I can give you some great advice on whats not that great of a deal and I am also a ROI freak ( return on investment ).

People are always saying “time is money”…right?…I mean that is true, but if you stopped wasting all your money , then you would have more of it and in fact gain more time because you weren’t so foolish with you money. So…I think you are starting to see my point now.

The Good News

Now sure, you may be thinking . “yea, here we go , another crappy set of plugs” , NAW. I will show you stuff that you will think is stupid when you read it or maybe you won’t, but then when you actually try it , you will be like, “Holy crap dude……thats mint” ( 80’s slang ).

So, thanks for reading my post and make sure to keep coming back to the Gman’s blog here and keep reading from the growing list of authors , like my friend marymary who also just did a great post!

I am honored to be blogging on the #1 seo blog , that stays on course for the long haul , so with that said.

Have a Happy New Year everyone, and make sure to come back for my next articles so you can save bunches of cash :0)

Using Youtube to Promote Sites

Dec 30th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

This idea was in my marketing/advertising arsenal the minute i started anime/streaming sites, but to widen the markeable niche here I’ll give out a few tips on how you can use youtube to promote almost any kind of sites, Recently i saw a post on tc that showed a youtube video of microsoft promoting vista, which by the way is an awesome idea overall.

Here are the stats for it, although it was blogged about on techcrunch the video did not get many views but still you can use SMM to get traffic tot he videos, even if your video knocks out around 100 views thats a good thing because now 100 mainstream users know about your website.

Figuring out just what to promote..

If its the anime/video streaming niche, then you probably already know what to do but if you have a product website or a niche that isn" />#8217;t really “video” friendly then you’ll need to be a little creative.

  1. Promoting an activity is a good way to get people’s attention too, the best example for this should be this site : Pimp My Walk they either create their own videos or find videos using p2p programs and upload them to their youtube as a resource to their own users at their site and on every video page they link to themselves which gives them some kick ass traffic.
  2. Promoting a service can be tricky stuff, i mean “ebooks” and “how to books” when i say services because thats the most popular niche in the how to topic, this one is tricky because here you will have to either upload testimonials or case studies of people with the problem or whatever the niche suggests, it has to be genuine and moving and this can be really hard because you can’t just find these videos you’ll have to make them (record them) using real people.
  3. Promoting a blog, this is my favorite part because bloggers can make or upload (showcase) videos just about anything as long as the video gets tons of views no one cares where it was retrieved from, bloggers such as Shoemoney and Johnchow are examples of this one, Jeremy has videos on his personal life which features him and videos on SEM by Pam, whereas Johnchow loves to make videos on cars, past time activities, food, movies anything that will float his boat. When bloggers make videos and showcase them on their blog its the best marketing tactic ever because it makes your users feel like they are a part of the blogger’s life!

Including your link..

Including your link on every video is crucial and its better if you can somehow make an intro that you can add to every video, something really really flashy that shows your site’s name and address, you can also add your link to the description and/or on your youtube profile page that will definitely help bring in people to your site as well as give you some link love, not that it would be all that great but keep in mind the whole objective here is to bring in excessive traffic.

Here is shoemoney’s intro, to show you what you may need later on..

Building Relevancy

Dec 19th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

Since i talk about relevancy so much while talking about seo i think its time i explained how its built up.

You can judge a site’s relevancy in 3 easy steps.

Titles and Meta Tags

Take my blog for example, the titles and the meta tags have relevancy to each other as well as the niche, the keywords used in the title are also used in the meta tags, that helps in determining your rank in serps. Meta Keywords help in determining the page’s main subject/niche the description is what counts the most if you have the right terms used with the right context only then you can nail a good serp.

ss1.JPG

Titles however are not as important it gives you that special edge if you are going for a really big keyword, the title of this blog which is “Search Engine Marketing and Blogging Tips” is in perfect relevancy since i have my free seo book then my seo tips, on the blogging side i have my wordpress themes and the blogging tips, the titles and meta tags play a vital role in rankings because its how the site is classified you can have a home page with several keywords and descriptions and links or whatever but if your site does not have sufficient content for it, you won’t get a decent ranking.

The image below shows my explanation more graphically, landing a keyword is easy and having different keywords on the same domain is okay too until you can provide search engines with the content for it.

ss2.jpg

Internal links

Internal links hold alot of priority because serach engines like to see what people refer to your site as, if your site has 40% links with the title “SEO Blog” then you will do well on those serps and same with any other keywords you might want to target. Like i said before “You can have different keywords on the homepage as well…” that doesn’t mean you should get links for the homepage for all of those keywords, the keywords are there so that inner pages of your site may have good serps so if you get links directly to the pages that have the relevant niche you’ll find great results!

bbs.jpg

Outgoing links

Matt Cutts explained this in one of his videos, if Site A is based on health and health related tips and it starts linking to Site B which is a site promoting mortage loans and and finance, then that would be considered a bad neighborhood and their relevancy as well as SERPs will be shot this is what gets sites banned for paid links it has absolutely no link juice and no one is benefiting in that scenario.

Where as, if Site A is of a blogging niche and links to high profile sites within the blogging niche then that site/page will get more strength and probably a better rank in serps.

Fishing for RSS Subscribers

Dec 15th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

Lately I read two really interesting articles both of them aiming at opposite aspects of the subject at hand “RSS Subscribers”.

CopyBlogger - 10 Effective Ways to Get More Blog Subscribers
Gary Conn - How To Increase RSS Feedburner Subscribers

Bloggers and RSS Subscribers

If you are a blogger then you need these subscribers baaaad, these are the main come-back traffic to your blog and not just that, these are relevant visitors that are interested in your blog content as well as the ads around it which means more CTR, so as a blogger you need to look at them as your bread and butter if they are happy then you’ll be happy..every 1st of every month.

Getting more RSS Subscribers

Lets get to it then, getting more rss subscribers could be a bit hard but not if you have access to a couple sites and a few friends who have friends to get started off.

These are some ways you can start off with some readers.

Get a landing page

You can always make a page within your blog with all the info to subscribe to your feed and all the other goodies that feedburner offers, and you know that they offer a.l.o.t!

You can also try to edit your blog templates to include subscribing links under every post like i did, you can look at them below but linking to them within the first few paragraphs or in the most interesting bits of it will get you even more attention.

Ask opinions within posts

This is usually how my numbers go up, whenever i ask my reader’s opinions in posts i get an email instead of a blog comment with some info on what i should post or what i should include in my posts from there on, so that way i land a couple readers right there.

Leaving your users with a question or a thought that would tickle their brain for a while would be good too, if it makes then want to think then they will surely come back for more!

Diversify your content

The more interactive the better!
If you have more then just lame ol’ posts on your blog, your visitors will definitely subscribe to your blog, there are alot of mundane bloggers that will just keep blogging with nothing else going on, and then there are people with several acts going on - on the same blog!

Think out of the box, podcasts is one way of getting interactive and probably getting a guest blogger would be nice too!
To take this further you could do ebooks, videos, contests and even try blog drama with other bloggers or in some cases join forces like johnchow and johncow.

Poke around your buddy list for readers

Well you can always go to your friends and ask them to subscribe to your feed and/or ask them to ask their friends to do it if not that then just post it on their sites or forums or wherever on the web it is that they go to, untill they are getting the link out there to 2 or more people you’ll do just one, don’t ever leave a reader behind!

Include your blog in your sites!

If you are a webmaster i would definitely recommend you to embed your feed into your sites that you make on a daily or monthly basis which you will sell overtime, obviously.

This will not only get you more exposure but also some new demographics for your blog!

Every digg means a new subscriber

To be honest, i can’t prove this part just yet but whenever i get 10+ diggs i get 10+ new subscribers which is awesome, so for the moment im building up on just that theory, if they dugg you then they must’ve subscribed to you as well you just might not know it.

Well thats it for the tips, try them lemme know how it goes :)
Now you can subscribe for more updates! :D

Neat way to increase interactivity and traffic.

Dec 15th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

This sure is a neat way to increase interactivity on your blog!

First of all you need to go get a Swicky from Eurekster fill in all the info about your site and all the relevant keywords you use on the blog..etc

After you are done you’ll get a page like the one the below, you can see a live swicky here : Blueverse Swicky
What it will do is.

  • Get the necessary links/posts from your site
  • Use the keywords you defined
  • Categorize it using the keywords
  • Putting your results at the top whenever someone queries anything. This gives you a bit of traffic as well.

blueverse-swicki-powered-by-eurekster_1197780895484.png

Oh, and your swicky gets listed in their directory, although its all noindex and nofollow you still get the exposure to everyone who views your content, even though you are not getting a hardlink your content is now in their search pool, which is a good thing since swicky gets alotta traffic, you just might get a taste of it too.

Now, to take this to the next step.

If you are a webmaster, and you have one main blog with several other sites that aren’t as important as your main site/blog you’ll get alot more interactivity by adding this widget that searches your blog/site to the sites that you may sell later, that will get you even more exposure, consider it as a network toolbar, if the widget is in there, and you sell a site, they will always keep sending you traffic.

Remember, every visitor that comes to your site or blog is valuable and builds up your path to success, don’t miss out on a chance to lose a single one of them!
