With the popularity of blogging increasing every day, there are many useful tools available to help with your blog. I’m sure everyone appreciates any help that they can get when they’re blogging. By using some of these tools, you can save time and headache.

1. Stock.xchng
If you are needing images for your blog or blog posts, this is a great place to find some great stock photos. This website is used by many web developers and individuals every day. Some of the stock images may cost some money while others are available for free. Flickr is great but sxc provides a hell lot bigger collection of usable images for your blog while flickr mostly has copyrighted and/or personal photos.

2. Feedburner
Feedburner is an RSS tool that is used by tons of bloggers around the world. You can add an array of features to your RSS feed by using Feedburner. Feedburner is considered one of the most effective feed marketing tools ever, it offers a wide selection of tools to help you optimize and promote your feed along with awesome stats on how many subscribers you have and what they use to subscribe and for more advanced stats they also provide information on views and clicks on your feed items. Its a must have for all blogs.

3. Pingoat
Pingoat is a tool that pings (notifies) the different services that keeps track of blogs and publishes the blog content. This will let the service know that your blog has been updated and they will begin to crawl your blog to find out what has been added. This can lead to increasing the incoming traffic to your blog.

Blogging Tips: Keyword Research

Feb 18th 2008 - Posted by Mary Stage

No matter what type of keyword research you use, there are more than just seo tools that come into play with keywords when blogging.

A good blogger must know what the current trends in the niche are.  You can do this by doing many of the suggestions I have made in the past from one of my Blogging Tips posts.   Or from the Blogging Tips post about Google Labs I wrote.

Knowing this information and blogging about it before there are already 500 other blogs with the information can bring you many new visitors who might not have found your blog otherwise.

Sometimes, the best way to incorporate your newly discovered keywords is by offering a post that gives your opinion on a certain issue that is popular in the current trends.  If you have a keen enough eye for what’s going on, and you can write entertaining content about it, you are likely to score many visitors from Google and many other search engines.

Now I’m not saying to stop doing keyword research with SEO Tools, but I am telling you to start looking for keywords in other places as well.  It’s not always what people have searched for in the past that will bring you traffic, it could very well be what people are going to search for in the future that brings you the most visitors.

Adding the current trends keywords to your posts will surely net you a good amount of traffic.  Especially if you are among one of the few blogs who are targeting those particular keywords.  If you can even remotely relate your niche to the topics that are currently popular, you should do well with those words long enough to gain some new subscribers that will remain loyal readers of what you are blogging about.

Basic SEO for Blogs - Money Bloggers

Feb 16th 2008 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

After alot of changes i have what i like to think of as the perfect money blogging SEO for blogs, since i am in the business of selling sponsored reviews and banners i need to make sure my sites are up to the standard where i can charge the best price for it and my advertisers can get the most out of it as well, so here are my steps to seo your blog.

First of all, you will need a few plugins to make sure your blog is ready for the rest of the setup.

All of the above mentioned widgets have a one click setup but ALL in one seo pack requires some extra settings that you might want to take a look over, here is my recommended setup :

65t236w-hfch.png

fshsf.pngIts good to have some kind of keywords at the end of tag or category archives, it gives the blog a better look but it doesn’t matter SE wise because i’ve added a no-index tag, you should know that getting your categories and tag pages indexed is a really bad move, it creates alot of indexable pages with the same content on almost all pages so in act of good faith no-index them then your posts and pages will be the only indexed pages from your site which will eliminate any spam flags on your site.

Permalinks are always an issue with people but the way i see it, it really doesn’t matter if you have a SE friendly url with the keywords and everything or those mysql query urls with the IDs, they are both given a SERP judging by their quality and strength not url structure, but if you still want to get a good structure try one of the following but remember i am not saying that these structures will give your blog anymore value then it already has, its just fancy urls so try to make it as short as possible.

  • /post-title
  • /date/post-title
  • /category/post-title
  • /category/post-title.html
  • /post-id/post-name

No-following links is a good move but make sure that the comments on every post are nofollowed not the post links, if you are in the money blogging business you can not be controlling the flow of link juice from your site, google sees this as “gaming” pr and selling links, you do not want to be caught doing that, so just take the no-follow off all the links - regular posts & sponsored reviews.

Registering your blog at technorati is a seriously good move, only the registered blogs are ranked on their authority system and it does give out alot of good links too so make sure you are registered at technorati before you start pro active blogging.

Choosing keywords is something most bloggers get stuck on so like i always suggest “don’t get star struck” if others are earning good on a particular keyword doesn’t mean anyone could conquer it with little or less work, every successful blogger knows the hardwork it takes to make a niche work for him or her. Break down your blog’s main topics and go with the most relevant keyword/title you can come up with, the more relevant the better, being an authority in the niche is done easily, I’ll make a follow up post about being an authority figure in a certain niche soon after this post subscribe to me for the upcoming updates.

Linking to authority sites from relevant articles is a tactic most SEOs use to get higher rankings, I personally don’t really support this because you are getting leverage from someone else’s content and sending most of your traffic to them, that might get you a good SERP but it will drain a good amount of visitors from your blog, If you are just starting out make sure to not link to any bigger blogs or sites rather just send them a trackback if you have used their content and/or your content is relevant to their’s :) that way you get a free link! and its relevant as ever!

Selling traffic/exposure and not SEO value is my aim, who ever aims to sell links in order to give their advertisers better SERPs and such is going to get penalized one day or the other the better approach to money blogging is to get a really good reader base and giving them info that they want to know, in other words relevant ads , doesn’t matter if its a review or a banner if its irrelevant to your site, your advertisers won’t get any exposure.

Deep links can help you in so many ways, specially if you have the right title structure on your inner posts and pages that helps alot in getting a decent serp, for example i removed the blogname from all posts and pages to make my posts that much more relevant and its fairly easier to rank for a serp then before!

For example; Make Money Online Wallpapers (run query) :

mmowp.jpg

Although there isn’t that much competition on that keyword but still i wanted to show you just how much better SERPs look without the blogname in them. There are more follow up posts that discuss this matter further/deeper so subscribe to me to stay updated on this :)

More money is what it all boils down to.  If we can start seeing our incomes increase by the hard work we are doing on our blogs, what more inspiration do you need?  Money is the best inspiration to keep adding fresh new content to your blog and to keep practicing your SEO skills.

Many people don’t realize that some businesses are willing to pay quite a bit more for certain keywords that are related to products the company offers, which in turn makes it worth more money to adsense publishers.

The more generalized your blog is, the less your clicks will be worth.  Try blogging about specific items and companies to see what kind of ads start showing up in those posts.  These will be the ones worth the most to you.

Here is a good example of a site that gets almost 100 clicks per day but only makes a measly $4 with about 750 page impressions.  tattooideasandmore.com  Yes it’s mine, I bought this from someone about 7 months ago when it was brand new.  However, I managed to get on the front page of Google for a good keyword phrase by using the SEO Tips that I learned right here at BlueVerse before I started writing here.

It always amazes me to see the high number of  clicks with only the few dollars of profit.  Now if I were to start adding content to this site that relates to certain tattoo parlors or tattoo manufacturers, I’m sure the amount per click would dramatically increase.

Now, here’s another of my sites, heatknowledge.com  I bought this from a DP member and added quite a bit to it.  This site has a higher paying set of keywords I know, but you can see how I’m targeting certain keywords and getting certain ads to appear on my pages.  I still have a long way to go with it as far as SEO, but I’m happy overall with the traffic Google has already sent me and with the value of the clicks.

You can make more money to keep you inspired by mentioning brand names and talking about specific products in your posts.  You will be amazed at how much of a difference there can be for one site.  It could be just a few cents or a few dollars per click, it’s all in how you target your keywords.

Blogging about products gives you another way to keep adding fresh content on your blog.  It’s a win-win situation for you to mention specific products.  It’s hard for me to tell you what words to use without knowing your niche, but I’m sure you will have some idea of what they would be.

Good Luck and Keep Blogging!!

I guess if people make a big enough stink, Google will listen. It is apparent with Google’s recent announcement that they are listening to disgruntled webmasters who don’t like the changes that were recently made to the Adsense referral program. They have listened to the feedback received and decided to make an amendment to the original pay structure to be dependent on where your referral comes from and not where you are located at. I’m sure it had something to do with Gnet’s post about Adsense Referral Units, when Gnet talks Google listens.

This means that you can still live in any country and make decent money referring those who live in North America, Latin America and Japan.

This gives webmaster a reason to keep targeting quality traffic and to be able to get quality users to refer to Google.

It makes sense for Google to structure it this way instead of cutting you out of the money altogether if you live outside those certain areas, after all it’s the new referrals that mean the most to Google no matter where you are referring them from.

It’s nice to know that Google is listening to it’s publishers and referrers to the program.

They also mentioned that it has been reported many users don’t have any Adsense referrals showing in their stats. Google reports this is just a display problem and that it will be fixed as soon as they can get it done but your earnings are still there adding up, they just aren’t displaying.

You can read about it for yourself at the Google Adsense Blog to find out in more detail what changes have been made to the recent announcement made by Google.

Researchers have used the eponymous search engine, Google, to define in images what the English language looks like (and apparently it looks like a Jackson Pollack painting.) The study has used images from the search engine and ranking computer technology to collect the most commonly associated images fro each word of the English language. Interestingly the use of the Google in this study probably holds some of the Keys for the future of Search technology, and of course SEO as a subject.

Images already for a part of the search engines logarithm, but the development of a visual dictionary which could recognize an image and relate that image to a word without a word tag, would mean that web sites and of course SEO policy would have to update to include a visual element as well. Imagine a search engine that would look truly at all of the elements of a post or page, the words, their semantics and meanings, and the imagery used, to rank that pages usefulness to the searcher.

This, with the advent of the visual dictionary, does not seem to be at all unlikely, nor indeed, too far in the future. So far the research carried out by Linguist at MIT (home of the grandfather of all linguistics, Noam Chomsky) have not talked about the commercial applications of the project, but the use of Google as the medium by which the images were sourced, whilst unsurprising, smacks of a potential Google application of the work.

Where does this leave SEO, well if images are used by a search engine in designating relevance the job of SEO writer will truly become one of SEO Designer utilizing the visual dictionary to design relevant and searchable images. Watch this space for more information.

Blogging Inspiration - Google Alerts

Jan 7th 2008 - Posted by Mary Stage

Well it’s the beginning of a new week and I think after the Holidays everyone can use some inspiration for writing blog posts successfully in 2008. Make sure to subscribe so that you won’t miss a single source of inspiration that I offer in my weekly posts.

I don’t know how many of you are currently using Google Alerts, but it’s a great way to stay current on a topic. Google Alerts will email you anytime there are new Google results for your search terms.

google-alerts_1199752518056.png

It’s pretty easy to set up, all you have to do is enter your search terms, select what you want to monitor, decide how often you want to be notified (once a week, every day, or as it happens), and enter the email address you want to be notified at.

This should give you an endless amount of topics to draw from in order to keep your content fresh and up-to-date with the latest happenings on any subject. They even give you a place to manage your alerts so that you can easily view your search terms.

Be one of the first blogs with an update on a certain celebrity or have the most current political news when you use Google Alerts. The possibilities are endless. Spend some time setting this up for keywords that relate to your niche and see what kind of inspiration it will bring you.

By using Google Alerts, you can have the most current news on any subject if you stay on top of it and commit to writing about breaking news that Google will notify you of. If readers see that you are coming up with the best stories on a subject, they will most likely subscribe to read what you have to say everyday.

Don’t forget to submit your sources of blogging information so that I can write about them here. Just use the comment link to let me know what they are. I’m looking forward to checking out your suggestions and I hope you can gain something from mine.
