Blogging Tips: Keyword Research

Feb 18th 2008 - Posted by Mary Stage

No matter what type of keyword research you use, there are more than just seo tools that come into play with keywords when blogging.

A good blogger must know what the current trends in the niche are.  You can do this by doing many of the suggestions I have made in the past from one of my Blogging Tips posts.   Or from the Blogging Tips post about Google Labs I wrote.

Knowing this information and blogging about it before there are already 500 other blogs with the information can bring you many new visitors who might not have found your blog otherwise.

Sometimes, the best way to incorporate your newly discovered keywords is by offering a post that gives your opinion on a certain issue that is popular in the current trends.  If you have a keen enough eye for what’s going on, and you can write entertaining content about it, you are likely to score many visitors from Google and many other search engines.

Now I’m not saying to stop doing keyword research with SEO Tools, but I am telling you to start looking for keywords in other places as well.  It’s not always what people have searched for in the past that will bring you traffic, it could very well be what people are going to search for in the future that brings you the most visitors.

Adding the current trends keywords to your posts will surely net you a good amount of traffic.  Especially if you are among one of the few blogs who are targeting those particular keywords.  If you can even remotely relate your niche to the topics that are currently popular, you should do well with those words long enough to gain some new subscribers that will remain loyal readers of what you are blogging about.

For an introduction to the world of Advertising in all its horrible and contemptuous glory please get hold of the film ‘How to Get Ahead in Advertising.’ Written and Directed by Bruce ‘Withnail " />amp; I’ Dickenson and starring Richard, E. Grant, it really lets you know all you need to about Advertising and it is absolutely hilarious. One of the major themes in Advertising or any kind of marketing is selling the Sizzle. If you are promoting a product, the chances are (unless you are in the narrowest of niches) that there are a few other products which are indistinguishable from yours in every way, quality, function, price etc. This is where marketing comes into play and where the Sizzle, or the hyperbole, that is written about your product will distinguish you to consumers.

There is no one way to write good copy about your product, and there are huge amounts of information on what does make good copy, see Copyblogger for a good general introduction. What is important is maintaining a sense of integrity with what you convey. Integrity is the new black, in the past it was an underestimated force in advertising, mainly due to the narrow media of pre internet advertising. As the web has exponentially expanded the ways in which we receive information about products and services, we have become ‘hyper-skeptical’ about information and its integrity, (How many spam emails do you read, some of them might really have a product that you need or want, have you ever even thought about that?) Indeed we are more susceptible to Brand Loyalty than ever before as Trust is more important than ever. Integrity is even harder to develop and maintain than before, and this is also down to the mass media of the internet. As with politicians, companies only have to slip up once and it is everywhere on the net in a matter of hours, and that integrity is lost. How do you convey integrity? It is very difficult, but one good way to embed it in copy is to have a guest book on your website for satisfied customers (or use iTrader or similar software) the advantages of a guestbook is that you can lift comments and put them into emails, or letters or reviews, or anything else for that matter. However, it does mean that the products and services you provide have to be faultless. Happy Hunting.

Ventio’s Serp Position Tool.

Oct 21st 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

I really like this new tool from ventio, the only other reliable serp tool i know is from shoemoney so far i was using that kinda gives me the best of all search engines so yea i prefer that this one is pretty cool though, great design works good too, one thing missing though, it should probably make entries of all the rankings and run checks every day and if theres a change it should email the user the entry belongs to, i was going to make a tool like that then the wordpress theme sponsorship era came on so i got distracted (big time).

Web Tool : Bulk Stats

Aug 11th 2007 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

NEW WEB TOOL!

Bulk Stats

What features does this have?

- Option selection, allows you to choose what you search for, increases search times.

- REAL TIME lookup: Sick of waiting till the entire list is done so you can get your results. No more! The script outputs as fast as it receives the information. Don’t wait around! Get the stats as soon as you can!

- Logging to .TXT - Already done the search once? Don’t want to have to type in the URLs again? Good news! All results are logged to the /saves/ folder, (CHMOD 777 it.) - This means you can show the results to your friends etc, and if an option isn’t selected. It isn’t logged either.

- Logging to .CSV - Done the list? But you don’t want to show you friends so you don’t need .TXT - But you do what to manipulate the output in a spreadsheet program like GoogleApps, Excel or OpenOffice - Then it logs to a .csv with the same filename as a .TXT - Allowing easy access and manipulation of output data.

- Right to remove the Copyright - You MAY remove the Copyright OR change it however you like.

Please note, I can’t guarantee infinite, because not all servers are set up in the same way. Infinite is a very big number, it should however be able to cope with 100 easily. It all depends on the PHP timeout ur server is using and other variables

- Column Sorting: Click the row headers to automatically order the results by anything you like, want the domains to be in alphabetical order? Order of lowest to highest PR? Highest to lowest Alexa Rank? It will be done smoothly and instantly, allowing easier viewing of data. Even better, it smoothly degrades in Javascript disabled browsers!

- Row and Cell highlighting - Sick of not knowing which row your looking up? Now it highlights the entire row with a subtle tone, allowing you to easily see what your looking up.

- Example List - At the click of a button, the text area can be instantly populated with the top 20 sites in the world, allowing users to view not only the status of the world’s greatest sites, but also allow them to use your script when their is no list. This means even someone who stumbles upon your site by accident can use it, without even a list to check. (This list is also good for demo uses)

- Help Guide - At the click of the button, a help guide (which I’m still writing, but you can change) will popup, allowing the user to see detailed instructions on how to use the powerful script. Even the most ignorant person can use this simple point and click script.

- Huge list of lookups - Not only can this script lookup:

- IP Address of server hosting the domain
- Alexa Rank
- Google PageRank
- D.MOZ listed
- Google Backlinks (How many sites does Google find that link to your URL)
- Yahoo! Backlinks
- AltaVista Backlinks
- AllTheWeb Backlinks
- Age of Domain
- Link to WHOIS Details
- Thumbnail which is activated on Rollover
Unique: Number of links on the page
