Paid Links - A no no? - um, no!

Apr 11th 2008 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

Shoemoney had an interesting video a while ago, here it is (watch it before i carry on)

Paid links aren’t all bad, there are several types of paid links going around and just a few of them are:

  • Sponsored reviews
  • Sitewide links
  • in-context links
  • Sponsored wp themes
  • Spam comments
  • ..etc

I learned this the hard way, a few weeks ago i had about 1400 indexed pages, it was always a bit odd because i knew i was blogging alot but not that much, so i started going through my serps for blueverse and i saw a ton of search queries, tags and categories within the serps with no unique description in the results, this is a really really bad thing to have in your serps if you are targeting for some tough keyword, since i was using All in one seo pack for wordpress i easily no followed all search queries, tags and categories.

This gave me a really good boost within the serps which is resulting in me ranking as follows:

Top SEO Tips - 22 Mar 08

Mar 22nd 2008 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

Well in my opinion seo changes along with trends and we have to adapt to new tactics and strategies to rank higher then before, so i will try my best to add as many up to date seo tips as possible every week. This week we’ll be focusing on indexation and avoiding any kind of penalties that may occur in the future, prevention steps in other words. Here we go.

Link Building

If you are building links for a site remember to get both nofollow and dofollow links its good to have a good amount of both to avoid any suspicious robots from search engines, although it may seem paranoid to do so but it does help, having a good amount of both nofollow and dofollow places your blog in the gray area were you won’t be suspected upon as much.

The no follow links have to be from relevant sites as well as the do follow links, if you are focused on mentions and blog by just focusing on linkbaiting then it won’t hurt to buy a high pr link once in a while at a good directory, spoiling yourself once in a while doesn’t hurt, as a matter of fact recently i thought of treating myblog to another link, this time i submitted it to idk since i know its owner and he keeps the site in really good shape so it seemed like a great deal to me.

Blog SEO Revisited

Mar 12th 2008 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

Every experienced blogger and webmaster understands that search engine optimization is what makes a blog or website successful. Search engine traffic is the most desired traffic for anyone. By effectively optimizing your blog for search engines you will notice an increase in search engine traffic.

Your blog design will determine how well search engines like your blog. If it is coded well and easy to navigate, you can rest assured that search engines will be attracted to your blog. Also, you need to make sure that your pages are conforming to the standard validation guidelines for the coding that you are using. A critical issue that relates to how well users can browse throughout your blog is whether or not it is compatible with the major browsers that people use today. This includes Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape, and Opera. If your blog doesn’t load right in their browser there is more of a risk of your visitors going to another website/blog and never returning back to your blog. Search engines dislike excessive use of Frames, Flash, and Javascript. Keep your blog as simple as possible to assure that search engines continue to be attracted to it.

Wiki Love from Google..

Mar 5th 2008 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

A search within a search, who would’ve thought google would give out its primary funtion to another site’s benefit, this just goes to show how much google loves wikipedia (and a few others) because of its authorititative content, the new search box for wikipedia helps people to search within wikipedia’s site (i’m guessing all the indexe pages at google), it is an effort on google’s end but it seems like reaching a bit too much and pushing people to use wikipedia more besides the fact that most webmasters are complainging that wikipedia ranks higher then they do on keywords that they specialise in, at least this feature came out of google beta then those weird search index options feature..

Better SERP Rankings - Better Targeting

Mar 4th 2008 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

Here is a breakdown of the things I’ve learned in the SEO process of most of my new sites, SERPs are a good source of traffic and authority of a certain page or site, to make sure you get the right serps and/or multiple serps you need to make sure things are properly formatted on your site and here is how i do it.

Positioning

Probably the most easit thing I figured out, google saerches for words in the same sentence not necerarily to be in the same manner as searched, what i mean is that the site with the following as its description can easily rank for “SEO Blog”

Running a Seo site is hard, learn tips and tricks at our blog

Its important that you string the words along so that you can rank for a number of things and no matter what keyword you target for link wise your site will keep up and perform much better then it would with constant changes to it’s title’s. For example the following sentence:

Bigger Blog - Better SEO, SEM tips blog

…can rank for :

Everyone fears that one time when your site gets de-indexed by google, truth is no matter how many times it happens to people no one knows exactly what to do in those situations and they end up complaining about it in forums and such, so i thought why not line out the process of getting your site back into google index. Now, I would like to remind all of ya’ll that do not let your lively hood depend on Google!

Analyzing your mistakes and slips

You know its your fault because you either did something against Google’s tos and/or looked over something that later got you into hot water..
Here are the list of things you should start checking:

Duplicate Content

Its possible that you posted the same content over and over on multiple pages on your site and/or copied it from other websites, most of the time sites are de-indexed because they are stealing content from other sites that are already considered authoritative for that particular type of content and/or keywords A good way to find out if other sites have the same content is to run it through copyscape.

SEO Myth Throughout The Internet

Feb 28th 2008 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

This is a guest post by Shannon Lily from Infected by Bugs.
First off I wanted to thank Ahson once again for allowing me to guest post on his great BlueVerse blog! I love BlueVerse and I read it as if it was my second home. Today I am going to uncover one of the many SEO Myths that have been around the search engine optimization forums and blogs out their.

Does The Cache Date Actually Matter?

I have seen people of all shapes and sizes tell newer seos that one key factor they can use to up their serp rankings is to get indexed by the search engines more often. These seos either don’t know the truth themselves (not a big surprise) or they are purposely misleading the newer seos to put them on a wild goose chase and never achieve seo success. Whatever the reason is the seos that endorse that method really bug me to say the least.

In my opinion seo is an art form that should be shared with the world, if you’re a better artists then me then you deserve the fame you get from your art and vice versa. You may be asking yourself how little old me knows this little tidbit of information that seems to allude most seos.

It’s really quite simple, I have done testing on the subject and after a few months time have seen the negative and positives of getting my site indexed more often. I am sure Gnet has covered how to get indexed more by the search engines, but just incase he has not all it takes is a few social bookmarks and you will be set!

So anyways, about my testing! I have sites that are anywhere from 3 to 10 years old that I have owned the whole time and used for various things. I have seen the ins and outs of seo at work and all my sites rank for decent terms throughout the search engines. This info has given me the ability to dissect each test and see what works and what does not. After all this testing I can gladly and proudly say that being indexed in the search engines is not necessary for better rankings.

Instead of focusing in on that logic, take your new found wisdom and do the other steps to seo that really do matter like link building and connecting with our bloggers of your niche.

I would love to hear your thoughts and comments on this subject, I will reply to all that I can so comment away below!
