SEO Myth Throughout The Internet

Comments (3)By Ahson Rafiq in SEO on 28th February 2008

This is a guest post by Shannon Lily from Infected by Bugs.
First off I wanted to thank Ahson once again for allowing me to guest post on his great BlueVerse blog! I love BlueVerse and I read it as if it was my second home. Today I am going to uncover one of the many SEO Myths that have been around the search engine optimization forums and blogs out their.

Does The Cache Date Actually Matter?

I have seen people of all shapes and sizes tell newer seos that one key factor they can use to up their serp rankings is to get indexed by the search engines more often. These seos either don’t know the truth themselves (not a big surprise) or they are purposely misleading the newer seos to put them on a wild goose chase and never achieve seo success. Whatever the reason is the seos that endorse that method really bug me to say the least.

In my opinion seo is an art form that should be shared with the world, if you’re a better artists then me then you deserve the fame you get from your art and vice versa. You may be asking yourself how little old me knows this little tidbit of information that seems to allude most seos.

It’s really quite simple, I have done testing on the subject and after a few months time have seen the negative and positives of getting my site indexed more often. I am sure Gnet has covered how to get indexed more by the search engines, but just incase he has not all it takes is a few social bookmarks and you will be set!

So anyways, about my testing! I have sites that are anywhere from 3 to 10 years old that I have owned the whole time and used for various things. I have seen the ins and outs of seo at work and all my sites rank for decent terms throughout the search engines. This info has given me the ability to dissect each test and see what works and what does not. After all this testing I can gladly and proudly say that being indexed in the search engines is not necessary for better rankings.

Instead of focusing in on that logic, take your new found wisdom and do the other steps to seo that really do matter like link building and connecting with our bloggers of your niche.

I would love to hear your thoughts and comments on this subject, I will reply to all that I can so comment away below!

Internal Linking in Blogging

Comments (2)By Ahson Rafiq in Blogging, SEO on 19th February 2008

After reaching a certain number of posts a blog has sufficient data to be linked internally rather then linking to other blogs on the net. Linking to inner posts within a blog is really good for SEO as well as to get some additional traffic because most of the links from within posts get the most exposure.

Searching your blog before searching a Search-Engine

Why not search your own blog for content to link before going to search engines?
It does give you alot of strength to refer to your own inner pages for a certain topic and it certainly does boost your serps.

Revive old content

After all old content is still content, linking to really old content which is buried down in pages!
Linking to those old posts can offer your readers with not only more info but also get those posts more exposure in search engines!

Feed readers to Site Visitors

Usually i don’t click a post in my feed reader unless i really really want to read a post, so if you are adding links within the posts to emphasize a point your readers will certainly click those links to go to the posts at your blog!

Good Link Flow

Linking to other sites is not the only way link flow is altered, the ratio at which you are linking to sites matters alot and if you more links to other sites then pages from your own that is a clear sign of paid links and/or low content value.

You could refer to our blogging tip on content for more info on this matter ;)

Basic SEO for Blogs - Money Bloggers

Comments (6)By Ahson Rafiq in Blogging, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online, SEO on 16th February 2008

After alot of changes i have what i like to think of as the perfect money blogging SEO for blogs, since i am in the business of selling sponsored reviews and banners i need to make sure my sites are up to the standard where i can charge the best price for it and my advertisers can get the most out of it as well, so here are my steps to seo your blog.

First of all, you will need a few plugins to make sure your blog is ready for the rest of the setup.

All of the above mentioned widgets have a one click setup but ALL in one seo pack requires some extra settings that you might want to take a look over, here is my recommended setup :

65t236w-hfch.png

fshsf.pngIts good to have some kind of keywords at the end of tag or category archives, it gives the blog a better look but it doesn’t matter SE wise because i’ve added a no-index tag, you should know that getting your categories and tag pages indexed is a really bad move, it creates alot of indexable pages with the same content on almost all pages so in act of good faith no-index them then your posts and pages will be the only indexed pages from your site which will eliminate any spam flags on your site.

Permalinks are always an issue with people but the way i see it, it really doesn’t matter if you have a SE friendly url with the keywords and everything or those mysql query urls with the IDs, they are both given a SERP judging by their quality and strength not url structure, but if you still want to get a good structure try one of the following but remember i am not saying that these structures will give your blog anymore value then it already has, its just fancy urls so try to make it as short as possible.

  • /post-title
  • /date/post-title
  • /category/post-title
  • /category/post-title.html
  • /post-id/post-name

No-following links is a good move but make sure that the comments on every post are nofollowed not the post links, if you are in the money blogging business you can not be controlling the flow of link juice from your site, google sees this as “gaming” pr and selling links, you do not want to be caught doing that, so just take the no-follow off all the links - regular posts & sponsored reviews.

Registering your blog at technorati is a seriously good move, only the registered blogs are ranked on their authority system and it does give out alot of good links too so make sure you are registered at technorati before you start pro active blogging.

Choosing keywords is something most bloggers get stuck on so like i always suggest “don’t get star struck” if others are earning good on a particular keyword doesn’t mean anyone could conquer it with little or less work, every successful blogger knows the hardwork it takes to make a niche work for him or her. Break down your blog’s main topics and go with the most relevant keyword/title you can come up with, the more relevant the better, being an authority in the niche is done easily, I’ll make a follow up post about being an authority figure in a certain niche soon after this post subscribe to me for the upcoming updates.

Linking to authority sites from relevant articles is a tactic most SEOs use to get higher rankings, I personally don’t really support this because you are getting leverage from someone else’s content and sending most of your traffic to them, that might get you a good SERP but it will drain a good amount of visitors from your blog, If you are just starting out make sure to not link to any bigger blogs or sites rather just send them a trackback if you have used their content and/or your content is relevant to their’s :) that way you get a free link! and its relevant as ever!

Selling traffic/exposure and not SEO value is my aim, who ever aims to sell links in order to give their advertisers better SERPs and such is going to get penalized one day or the other the better approach to money blogging is to get a really good reader base and giving them info that they want to know, in other words relevant ads , doesn’t matter if its a review or a banner if its irrelevant to your site, your advertisers won’t get any exposure.

Deep links can help you in so many ways, specially if you have the right title structure on your inner posts and pages that helps alot in getting a decent serp, for example i removed the blogname from all posts and pages to make my posts that much more relevant and its fairly easier to rank for a serp then before!

For example; Make Money Online Wallpapers (run query) :

mmowp.jpg

Although there isn’t that much competition on that keyword but still i wanted to show you just how much better SERPs look without the blogname in them. There are more follow up posts that discuss this matter further/deeper so subscribe to me to stay updated on this :)
