When people begin a blog, the first blogging platform they are introduced to is either Wordpress or Blogger, but there are many other quality blogging platforms available for users to choose from.
You may have started with Wordpress.com as a new webmaster who didn’t want to pay for hosting but wanted to get your information online in a hurry. Many new bloggers start out with a free hosted blog but soon find out why other people don’t use them. It’s much harder to monetize a site that is hosted on Wordpress.com because they want to run their own ads on your blog. That’s understandable, they need to make money somehow to pay for the gazillions of blogs they are hosting for free.
Then as you progress into hosting your blog on your own domain name, you end up sticking with the Wordpress blogging platform. There are many others available that are just as easy to use and we are inviting you to check each one of them out for yourself to see which one is right for you.
Here are two other great blogging platforms you can look into:
Drupal is a free blogging platform and CMS that allows a single user or a community of users to publish , organize and manage website content with ease. There have been many great websites created with the Drupal software.
Joomla is a CMS (Content Management System) that allows people to build websites and blogs and take care of their management tasks with ease. It can be used to add content and images, update product lines, and taking reservations. Joomla offers an easy to use browser-based interface where you can easily add new pages and create an unlimited amount of sections on your site.
One of these open source Content Management Systems may have more of the features you are looking for in a blog atmosphere.
Check Blueverse often for the other blogging platforms that are available for free, we will be bringing you new ones regularly.

How to be a rockstar freelancer is written by Cyan & Collis Ta’eed, they blog at Freelance switch which is a really great blog for freelancers and people who live for the pursuit for money!
I bought this book around a week ago and just finished it and i have to say this book really puts things in prospective for a webmaster specially me, specially its finance management part which is the part i was really impressed of, it effected me because i don’t really manage money that well or at all for that matter.
The book goes over the simplest and the most complicated parts of freelancing and making money online while keeping your life intact, most freelancers or new webmasters tend to over do it when they start out and it completely ruins their personal lives and health. This book goes over time management as well and explains how you should manage your time between work and play time.
How to be a rockkstar freelancer is a one step how-to book for anyone looking to make a career online. The reason i love this book is because they haven’t left anything out at all not even the little things such as how to manage your online career and real life job, when to quit your job and how to handle a full blown business when you have made it!
The things i learned from this book are:
How to manage money
Branding
Distributing time between real life and online life
Spending money and saving it
Having a budget
Handling clients (multiple clients at the same time)
Caring more about health
Diversifying my interests in a better way
The ebook was a really good way for them to get more subscribers too, when i went to Freelance Switch i instantly subscribed to their blog and actively started reading it.
First of all i’d like to clarify i’m a full time seo for myself like i always say “practice seo don’t sell it” because most people just end up screwing up other people’s site like Traffic Power, I like to experiment with SEO (white or black) and post whatever results i get on this blog for everyone to read.
What is Search Engine Optimization?
SEO is basically tweaking your site so that its more se friendly and you get listed in search engines faster and at a higher rank, which is called on-site SEO but that expanded to off-site seo where you buy links to improve your search engine rankings but the true essence of SEO lies in on-site seo where all you need is good quality content whether you have meta tags or not it will be listed in search engines faster and at a good rank as well.
Some people think of off-site seo as the only true form of seo but that is not correct, if you build links for a site without having good content or proper content management then you won’t get anything out of any search engine out there, everything has to be balanced in order for you to get the most results, isn’t that what seo was meant for in the first place? - Optimizing your site to its MAXIMUM potential?
SEO includes these..
URL structure
Meta tags
Dup-Content Management
Taking care of 404s
Setting up 301s
Buying/Selling links - yea it does fall in here..
Content generation
Search Engine Ad Campaigns
SEO DOES-NOT includes these..
Link Bait
Marketing Pitches
Sales Pages
Blogging Tactics
Social Media Marketing
Who are SEOs?
SEOs are people who practice SEO to make it really simple once again people take things a little too far, these days people tend to learn borderline basic SEO on day1 and on day3 they are selling their so called “SEO Services”. A simple fact is that a good SEO earns enough on his own that he won’t be looking for a job anyway and even if he/she or them were up for hire their fee would be a really huge chunk like SEOmoz :
They are doing really great with their blog, along with their serps and their authority on their OWN SITE why wouldn’t anyone hire them?
If a SEO can’t even do good on his/her or their own site why would anyone else hire them?
How many SEOs are there?
As far as i know just about everyone today calls themselves a SEO, since there is no real qualification test for it, just about anyone can call themselves a SEO and start hustling people. Hence 95% of the SEOs are slimy..
First off, let me say if you are using WordPress, read the must have WordPress Plugins for 2008 that Gnet wrote about in an earlier post, I spent some time today working on a new WordPress Blog and I found these plugins very easy to implement, thanks Gnet for telling where to get all of them!
Okay and now on to the SEO Tips to optimize your website. I know that there are more experienced SEO people out there, but these are the tips I’ve found that are most overlooked by webmasters and bloggers today.
Link Building should be done on a regular basis. No matter how you go about getting links to point to your site, keep adding them. Regular new links will always be more appealing to Google and other Search Engines if you acquire them over time instead of all at one time. Building Links is often thought about in the beginning of websites and blogs but tends to drop off after some success has been seen. Don’t forget to keep building your links to keep your site the most optimized it can be.
Anchoring text is often done using the same word over and over again. Google likes your site better if you can link to different variations of the keyword you are using. If your linking to other pages and articles in your blog, practice anchoring to many forms of the keyword you are actually targeting. This will always help you to rank better with search engines. A good example of this was used above, where I linked up “Building Links” to a post previously written on BlueVerse instead of using “Link Building” as the anchor text.
Don’t forget to go bold! You don’t have to go crazy with it, but adding the <b></b> tags around the keywords you are trying to rank for whenever you can will play a big part in the optimization of your site.
Like I said, these are just the tips on what I think is most often overlooked as you get more involved with your website or blog. For a more in depth look at SEO and strategies you can use to optimize your site, download the Free SEO Book.
Lately I’ve been reading alot about adwords in my feeds, to start off i’d like to make it perfectly clear that i have never used pay per click advertising (except for once where i was just trying to burn some money) at the moment I’m not really keen on spending money on google or any other payper click ad network.
Its important to know your traffic sources and to know which you should choose, as for me I choose SEO since its free and i get to have whatever i want over a certain amount of time without spending that much money. SERPs are usually how i promote my sites, ranking for better keywords and getting traffic for it as well.
If you think about it most of the traffic you receive at your site from adwords is from google search anyway, and thats only the 10-20% of the people who actually care to look alll the way over there for sponsored links and the rest just go with the SERPs. Now think about it, wouldn’t you rather spend $0 and be in the 80-90% clickable area?
Getting good rankings is not hard as long as you take care of a few simple tasks.
Link Exchange with similar relevant sites
Make sure your site is interactive ( to make sure you keep the visitor you get )
Use your keywords wisely (dont spam your site with loads of keywords of different niches)
Use other of your similar sites to get some link love
When linking to inner pages use the keyword you are targeting for that page not the general overall keyword for the site/homepage
Make sure all your content is unique
Submit/Update sitemaps frequently
Wouldn’t you rather Optimize your site to earn more rather then spend money on adwords?
