Blogs = Sellouts : Bloggers = Authority

Comments (5)By Ahson Rafiq in Blogging on 17th August 2008

I wanna make one point clear here, since theres alot of hate going on around lately about bloggers selling their blogs for some quick cash. So do not take this in any offense at all (to all my readers and any one who loves this blog).

Blogs are made to be sold.

We are here to make money online, so yea even I will sell this blog at some point.

Blogs aren’t what defines authority, it’s the author. ie, Me or you.

Now that my points are clear, lets get on with the subject, alot of big blogs that people really love got sold, specially the whole WP Designer incident, even John Cow (even though I had my share of bad things to say about him), I gotta respect the guy for flipping the blog for some big chunk o’ cash ( $50,000 ). To be honest it wasn’t worth all that but still it was pretty good. And my due congrats to the founder of John Cow for the big sale.

Just like that one day I might sell out as well, but I’ll still be blogging else where, you can always buy out a blog but never the blogger (unless they sign a non-compete contract, which I never will). I still have loads to teach all you webmasters out there as I learn them, I don’t consider myself as a mogul or anything, I’m still learning to earn big, I started with 10c/day I ended up with xxx/day, so that’s what I preach about here, but it never ends now does it?

It’s never enough, so until I’m doing things you can’t do I’ll be online blogging about things, teaching whatever I learn myself ( that’s a big commitment in my opinion, because I’m a normal kid here, If I can do it, you can sure as hell do it as well! ).

Just remember, if you sell out your main blog, that you worked so hard on with all the networking, link building or whatever, it doesn’t mean you’re done for, you did it once and you can sure as hell do it again.

Here’s to all the bloggers capable to sell their blogs at high prices :D

Interview - Pawan Agrawal of MaxBlogPress

Comment (1)By Ahson Rafiq in News on 20th February 2008

I sent Pawan from Maxblogpress.com a few questions that i thought might be interesting to be answered, and he obliged to it, here’s the interview!

You made your passion into a marketing tactic, which was really
genius because the wordpress plugin userbase and demand is at an
all time high lately, would you give me a few words on this?

Although there are lots of plugins for WordPress, there are not many
good plugins for monetizing a blog. Most of the plugins are developed
just as a hobby by the plugin author.

Also, I have seen many good plugins which have great concept but very
poor user interface. In simple words a non-techie user finds it
impossible for them to install and use such plugins.

That’s the reason I stepped in to provide some quality plugins for
WordPress users as well as provide super easy interface for them to
use it.

The wordpress plugin business is indeed the future at the moment
because wordpress is being recognized as a CMS rather then a weblog
system so do you think you will be offering custom development,
thats when you reach a certain level of fame.

I don’t think I’ll offer any custom development in future. But of
course I am thinking of creating some packages which a user can easily
install themselves and use WordPress in an entirely new way as a CMS
for different purposes.

What are your monetization techniques on the plugins, I’m sure just
like every webmaster you have plans for MaxBlogPress too?
(techniques besides affiliate links on the plugins)

For now I’m using free plugins to provide good value to the community.
I’m using it as a tool to get my website recognized and make other
bloggers be familiar with the kind of quality I give.

About monetizing, plugins helps me build a good subscribers list.
That’s my main focus for now. Having a list opens up many ways to
monetize in future. Currently I’m monetizing my list by recommending
some other good blogging products.

Beside that I show a one time offer to every new subscribers.

Would you consider yourself a full time blogger?

Yes, I’m currently involved full time in my business.

Usability/Flexibility vs. Demand - What would you choose? In other
words Quality over Quantity - This question is related to the
wordpress plugin demand.

I’ll of course choose quality over quantity. I research deeply for
every plugin we develop so that I can proudly say it’s the best one in
its type.

Would you ever consider developing plugins that are already
developed but with more features? such as wp-affiliate pro and
oiopublisher?

These days, it’s quite hard to say any idea as the original one. If
you research a little bit then you’ll find that the “biggest and
unique idea” of now has been already there since ages. The only
difference is that the same idea wasn’t made so popular or there
wasn’t much feature added to that idea in the past.

Yes, I’ll be developing more plugins even though theare are already
plugins based on similar ideas.

But, if I develop any plugin then I’ll make sure to make it way much
better than any other existing plugins.

Lastly, everyone wants to expand and grow so do you have any plans
of either selling MBP or branching out to another niche based blog?

For now, I’ve no plan of selling maxblogpress. I’m passionate about it
and want to expand it much more further. In future, I may branch out
to cater the need of other popular blogging platforms too.
