Basic SEO for Blogs - Money Bloggers

After alot of changes i have what i like to think of as the perfect money blogging SEO for blogs, since i am in the business of selling sponsored reviews and banners i need to make sure my sites are up to the standard where i can charge the best price for it and my advertisers can get the most out of it as well, so here are my steps to seo your blog.

First of all, you will need a few plugins to make sure your blog is ready for the rest of the setup.

All of the above mentioned widgets have a one click setup but ALL in one seo pack requires some extra settings that you might want to take a look over, here is my recommended setup :

fshsf.pngIts good to have some kind of keywords at the end of tag or category archives, it gives the blog a better look but it doesn’t matter SE wise because i’ve added a no-index tag, you should know that getting your categories and tag pages indexed is a really bad move, it creates alot of indexable pages with the same content on almost all pages so in act of good faith no-index them then your posts and pages will be the only indexed pages from your site which will eliminate any spam flags on your site.

Permalinks are always an issue with people but the way i see it, it really doesn’t matter if you have a SE friendly url with the keywords and everything or those mysql query urls with the IDs, they are both given a SERP judging by their quality and strength not url structure, but if you still want to get a good structure try one of the following but remember i am not saying that these structures will give your blog anymore value then it already has, its just fancy urls so try to make it as short as possible.

  • /post-title
  • /date/post-title
  • /category/post-title
  • /category/post-title.html
  • /post-id/post-name

No-following links is a good move but make sure that the comments on every post are nofollowed not the post links, if you are in the money blogging business you can not be controlling the flow of link juice from your site, google sees this as “gaming” pr and selling links, you do not want to be caught doing that, so just take the no-follow off all the links - regular posts & sponsored reviews.

Registering your blog at technorati is a seriously good move, only the registered blogs are ranked on their authority system and it does give out alot of good links too so make sure you are registered at technorati before you start pro active blogging.

Choosing keywords is something most bloggers get stuck on so like i always suggest “don’t get star struck” if others are earning good on a particular keyword doesn’t mean anyone could conquer it with little or less work, every successful blogger knows the hardwork it takes to make a niche work for him or her. Break down your blog’s main topics and go with the most relevant keyword/title you can come up with, the more relevant the better, being an authority in the niche is done easily, I’ll make a follow up post about being an authority figure in a certain niche soon after this post subscribe to me for the upcoming updates.

Linking to authority sites from relevant articles is a tactic most SEOs use to get higher rankings, I personally don’t really support this because you are getting leverage from someone else’s content and sending most of your traffic to them, that might get you a good SERP but it will drain a good amount of visitors from your blog, If you are just starting out make sure to not link to any bigger blogs or sites rather just send them a trackback if you have used their content and/or your content is relevant to their’s :) that way you get a free link! and its relevant as ever!

Selling traffic/exposure and not SEO value is my aim, who ever aims to sell links in order to give their advertisers better SERPs and such is going to get penalized one day or the other the better approach to money blogging is to get a really good reader base and giving them info that they want to know, in other words relevant ads , doesn’t matter if its a review or a banner if its irrelevant to your site, your advertisers won’t get any exposure.

Deep links can help you in so many ways, specially if you have the right title structure on your inner posts and pages that helps alot in getting a decent serp, for example i removed the blogname from all posts and pages to make my posts that much more relevant and its fairly easier to rank for a serp then before!

For example; Make Money Online Wallpapers (run query) :

mmowp.jpg

Although there isn’t that much competition on that keyword but still i wanted to show you just how much better SERPs look without the blogname in them. There are more follow up posts that discuss this matter further/deeper so subscribe to me to stay updated on this :)

5 Ways To Be A More Productive Blogger

Comments (6)By Ahson Rafiq in Blogging on 16th February 2008

There are a few key points to being productive at blogging that you must never forget while blogging or planning future blogs. An off-topic note would be that you should never ever ignore your health over money matters, the healthier you are the more productive your financial life would be so be sure to either hit the gym once in a while or go for a run!

So, lets get to the 10 key ways to being a more productive blogger.

Content Planning

Most blogger’s just go to the post page, think of something to write and post it write away and then post it without any further research, the best way to make readable and content rich posts is to plan the post out, look for resources or links that might prove useful within the article as well - this part not only gives you a great article but also gives you a nice serp ranking - Planning out posts hours or days in advance gives you the chance of making sure that the content is up to date and relevant to the topic.

Some good sites to perform topic related searches would be blog search engines, here are some that i use to verify the freshness of my content.

3rd Party Media

I’ve always suggested using images and videos from sites (with the due credit) to spice up your post a bit. Content is always king but the surroundings play a vital role to keep the reader going as well, if you do have a few relevant images to spruce up the post then people carry on either to find the significance of the image used or finding links to other posts with other posts.

Here are some sites you can use to get some media on your site, this can also be used as a blogger block breaker yep the BBB, surfing latest news or viewing art always fills a blogger’s mind with new ideas of making new posts or new techniques for a post.

Stay Motivated

Staying motivated to blog is always the hardest part because at some point coming up with new posts daily gets to you so much that you just want to get away, so keep your eye on the prize the only reason people come online to work is because they have no other choice or have made up their minds to make it online, its a make it or break it situation so you need to realize that all the hard work you put into your blog now will pay off in the future.

Viral Content

A blogger’s success is partially judged by the type of content he/she produces, most successful bloggers are used to writing viral content that is not only digg-able/linkbait but also so useful that even when the trend dies out users still are looking for that content, and thats the kind of content that you need to be making!

Some of the successful viral content is of the following topics

  • Tutorials on how to do things
  • Top Lists of sites/resources
  • Explanation and Definitions of terms and/or processes (specially SEO)
  • Free Resources
  • Expose’ on big firms

Networking

A good blogger is not only good at what he/she does but also very caring of the bloggers around him/her as well, if you have blogs you occasionally read then drop by and add a few comments or maybe get in touch with that blog’s owner and work on something together, collaborating on projects is always a great way to increase a site’s traffic!
