Wiki Love from Google..

Mar 5th 2008 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

A search within a search, who would’ve thought google would give out its primary funtion to another site’s benefit, this just goes to show how much google loves wikipedia (and a few others) because of its authorititative content, the new search box for wikipedia helps people to search within wikipedia’s site (i’m guessing all the indexe pages at google), it is an effort on google’s end but it seems like reaching a bit too much and pushing people to use wikipedia more besides the fact that most webmasters are complainging that wikipedia ranks higher then they do on keywords that they specialise in, at least this feature came out of google beta then those weird search index options feature..

Targetting Multiple Keywords for the Homepage.

Jan 25th 2008 - Posted by Ahson Rafiq

At first i was only targetting the keyword “SEO Blog” somewhere along the line i got greedy and i wanted to target my homepage for Blogging Tips , Make Money Online and Freelancing Tips as well - This goes against my siteplan for this blog to begin with but then i started thinking what if.

What if i can rank well for all 3 keywords and still keep the site relevant, as far as i know if i do all 3 there will be a fair bit of irrelevant content on the site for some visitors, my rankings at the moment are:

This one really took the piss out of me..

shoemoney-serps-script_1201208589546.png

This one was fairly easiy ;p

shoemoney-serps-script_1201208602593.png

I started targeting “make money online” last night so yep it still counts

shoemoney-serps-script_1201208619296.png

This one was easier then i thought

Since my blog is technically a pr6 and i have a butt load of authority for most serps i can easily get into the top 20s or 30s but the top 10 spot is what im most interested in!

Here are a few of my aims to keep in mind while targeting multiple keywords for your home page.

  • Make sure every keyword you are aiming for has a link to the category page or post page, with relevant content
  • Links from relevant sites
  • In-content links (link love/mentions)
  • Alot of on-site seo - Meta tags/Titles/Descriptions and even 301s
  • Must have sufficient support from social networks for each keyword (diggs..stumbles..etc)
  • Unique and creative content - your content must be above average if you are trying to rank for something big

Thats all i have for now, subscribe to me for more updates as i get them! :D

I guess if people make a big enough stink, Google will listen. It is apparent with Google’s recent announcement that they are listening to disgruntled webmasters who don’t like the changes that were recently made to the Adsense referral program. They have listened to the feedback received and decided to make an amendment to the original pay structure to be dependent on where your referral comes from and not where you are located at. I’m sure it had something to do with Gnet’s post about Adsense Referral Units, when Gnet talks Google listens.

This means that you can still live in any country and make decent money referring those who live in North America, Latin America and Japan.

This gives webmaster a reason to keep targeting quality traffic and to be able to get quality users to refer to Google.

It makes sense for Google to structure it this way instead of cutting you out of the money altogether if you live outside those certain areas, after all it’s the new referrals that mean the most to Google no matter where you are referring them from.

It’s nice to know that Google is listening to it’s publishers and referrers to the program.

They also mentioned that it has been reported many users don’t have any Adsense referrals showing in their stats. Google reports this is just a display problem and that it will be fixed as soon as they can get it done but your earnings are still there adding up, they just aren’t displaying.

You can read about it for yourself at the Google Adsense Blog to find out in more detail what changes have been made to the recent announcement made by Google.

Blogging Inspiration - Google Alerts

Jan 7th 2008 - Posted by Mary Stage

Well it’s the beginning of a new week and I think after the Holidays everyone can use some inspiration for writing blog posts successfully in 2008. Make sure to subscribe so that you won’t miss a single source of inspiration that I offer in my weekly posts.

I don’t know how many of you are currently using Google Alerts, but it’s a great way to stay current on a topic. Google Alerts will email you anytime there are new Google results for your search terms.

google-alerts_1199752518056.png

It’s pretty easy to set up, all you have to do is enter your search terms, select what you want to monitor, decide how often you want to be notified (once a week, every day, or as it happens), and enter the email address you want to be notified at.

This should give you an endless amount of topics to draw from in order to keep your content fresh and up-to-date with the latest happenings on any subject. They even give you a place to manage your alerts so that you can easily view your search terms.

Be one of the first blogs with an update on a certain celebrity or have the most current political news when you use Google Alerts. The possibilities are endless. Spend some time setting this up for keywords that relate to your niche and see what kind of inspiration it will bring you.

By using Google Alerts, you can have the most current news on any subject if you stay on top of it and commit to writing about breaking news that Google will notify you of. If readers see that you are coming up with the best stories on a subject, they will most likely subscribe to read what you have to say everyday.

Don’t forget to submit your sources of blogging information so that I can write about them here. Just use the comment link to let me know what they are. I’m looking forward to checking out your suggestions and I hope you can gain something from mine.

Better Blogging with Google Presentations

Jan 6th 2008 - Posted by Mary Stage

Google keeps improving the way publishers can show off their hard work with tools of the trade. Their newest addition is from Google Docs. New Features have been added to the presentations. It’s a way to embed a slide show into any web page you want. This could give your blog fans something to actually look at instead of read.

The possibilities are unlimited with the use of this slide show! You can make one completely of text or add pictures to create a visual effect. It’s easier than ever to add pictures and import other slide files from Google Presentations or Power Point presentations saved on your computer. They have added a drag and drop feature to make it easier to choose pictures to add to your presentation. You can even rearrange the order of the slides by using the drag feature. Backrounds can be changed with a simple right click, and you can choose a solid color or upload an 800 x 600 image to use as your backround.

Google has also changed the look of the toolbar. They haven’t added any new features to it yet, but at least they are working on it.

Try using a Google Presentation in your next blog to really drive home your point on a subject. Once you get the hang of doing it, you’ll find out just how easy it is to do. Your blog subscribers will thank you for it!

jpmorgan.jpgIn a detailed report released this morning from Imran Khan and the North America Equity Research team at JPMorgan, Internet stocks outperformed the S&P 500 by 9% in 2007 and are expected to continue to rise throughout 2008.

JPMorgan is predicting that Internet stocks will have a 34% earnings growth this year while the earnings growth for the S&P 500 is only predicted to grow by 8%.

Why does JPMorgan predict such a rise in Internet Stocks? They have proven that faster internet speeds and the ecommerce boom goes hand in hand. Once people have a reliable connection they can depend on to take care of tasks online, it becomes much easier for people to get used to doing. These same people are the reason that Internet stocks are expected to have such a growth spurt. Once users get used to conducting more and more business online, they become more comfortable ordering their products online. With companies offering such easy ways to purchase products and have them shipped right to your home, it’s no wonder JPMorgan expects such a rise in earnings.

Another reason that earnings are expected to see such increases in 2008 are because of the use of social network sites and blogs to get more interaction out of users and give them a sense of community.

What does this mean to the blogging community as a whole? It means that now more than ever we need to have good content on our blogs so that advertisers will want to target our sites to showcase their products. JPMorgan also shows a decrease in newspaper advertising with a continuing decline throughout the new year. The only reason they give for this is due to online advertising methods, search engine marketing in general. With the possibility of ads to be placed in front of targeted users, why wouldn’t marketers want their ads in front of the people who are looking for their services or products?

You can read the whole “Nothing but Net” report from JPMorgan to get a more detailed explanation of why Internet stocks are expected to continue grow.

Below you will find a neat chart showing what search engines people use the most according to JPMorgan’s research. I thought you might find it interesting to look at.

Blogging Inspiration

Dec 31st 2008 - Posted by Mary Stage

Blueverse is proud to offer you suggestions on where to get inspiration for your blog posts. We hope to make it a weekly feature so that you can get a new source of inspiration every week.

Here are our suggestions for today:

If you are looking for a good place to find out what people are currently searching for the most, take a visit to the Google Trends Lab. If you can post information quickly enough, you may gain some new readers for your blog that would have otherwise not found you.

google-trends1.JPG

From the home page, you can see the top ten trends and it gives you the option to see more hot trends. By clicking this link it will open a list of the top 100 current trends. There might be something in the list that you can easily blog about that day, and if you are really good, you could make a few different posts about a hot trend every day to explode your traffic stats.

googletrendlist1.JPG

And the next tip is involved more around your niche market. Find a popular blog that contains information about the niche your blog is about to see what they are writing about. If they have a lot of comments be sure to read those as well. These comments on a particular subject give you great ideas for writing blog posts. Reader’s comments about the topic might give you a different angle on a subject than you would get from just reading the article itself.

As many of you may know, I write blog posts and web content for many different webmasters. By doing this, I have learned many different approaches to finding inspiration for writing great content. I hope you will enjoy my suggestions, I can’t wait until next week when I can share some more with you.

Where does your blogging inspiration come from? Blueverse would love to know so that we may share your suggestions with our readers, we’ll also let you tell us what you think about our suggestions. Add a comment to this post and keep reading Blueverse, you might just see an article with your blogging inspiration ideas in it.
