This thread at digitalpoint caught my eye, when the users there called john chow nothing more then an overrated food critic
Why does it matter if it’s John Chow? He’s just a popular food blogger, that’s all.
Yeah, as cool as this must be for you OP…he’s just an overrated food critic.
you forgot dating expert as well
To be honest if you make as much money as john chow it doesn’t matter if you’re a food critic or a pastry chef, money is money doesn’t matter how you earn it, but it is a bit of a shock when the person considered to be the master of making money online is called just a food critic, although he has been posting way too many resturaunt reviews on his blog lately, that’s the main reason I unsubscribed from his blog 2 weeks ago or so.
Now as a blogger, everyone has a certain type of image in their mind for themselves but what do people think about you? I guess the only way to know that is when someone gets pissed off or bothered enough to say something because paid review only write what your wallet spends, haha.
But to get back on topic, john chow not only got off the serps at google but now john cow got authority over john chow’s serps too. Check it out :
In the last 24 hours there were more emails to me about the post about John Cow’s Marketing Method then there were comments, so i think this is a valid enough reason to explain just why i do-not like what he tried on his blog.
-First i want to make it clear, i do-not think that the donations from the hacked page was what he was after - AT ALL!
Now this was all a link bait/marketing stunt to get in more links/be blogged about and get a little controversey going on, now the links part he did that very well, hell he even got a link from mine, now he must have got blogged on almost 20 blogs including this other auto blog that fetches all his posts ( i saw him in my trackbacks ).
The reason i posted the post before was because these are the tactics and and methods to get a blog or site more popular the wrong way, i do-not support it one bit, people may have their own opinion some of them think that the blog WAS actually hacked and the money that was lost Mr.John Cow made up for it and some think it was just a “joke”, let me tell you something if you have a good thing going and we all know that he does, would you go around and screw with it? Yea, didn’t think so..
This was all just a sleezy marketing tactic no matter what anyone says to me because i can see all the points here, i don’t see any reason for him to go on and mak
Recently, the author of John Cow posted that it was actually linkbait, here is what he posted in his post..
We really didn’t do it for the $100 or thought it to be linkbait. We just think that it doesn’t have to be the 1st of April to play pranks. And our adorable advertisers needn’t worry, you will all receive your full 31 days obviously.
Now, tell me this, can you actually take advice from someone who would jeopardize his blog’s integrity and credibility for a joke?
And as far as me thinking he is the “scum of the earth” , no you have me all wrong, you have a good thing going with one really bad move that did change your whole established image for me. Personally i don’t even read JohnCow.com i read a thread on dp which made me want to blog this, I do know your popularity was pretty much directly proportional to johnchow’s de-rankings earlier, so i followed threads and posts wherever i saw the title “john cow“.
This just has to be the sleeziest and most low method to make money off of a blog, you have to be really really really low to do this, do keep that in mind.
So heres what happens, the owner of John Cow removed the original homepage and puts up a redirect to another sub-page on the site where he puts up a big image saying “This Blog is Hacked! If We Do Not Receive $100 in 24 hours The Cow Gets Well Done!!!”
And now any regular visitor is free to donate or pay the ransom in this case for the blog to be back up, its like saying “give me your money or i won’t blog anymore!”. As far as i can predict this matter, this will totally ruin John Cow’s credibility.
This is marked as a trend as well, this can be the new wave of marketing where bloggers act like low down crooks to earn that extra buck, webmasters come up with new techniques to make money (no duh) but they also tend to copy what others are doing to earn money at the same time, thats why the ebook niche is so huge, people want to copy others!
